Ayahuasca Purple crosses Master Kush with the northern Vietnamese landrace Red River Delta; Barney's Farm lists the violet-coloring strain as a pure indica.
The foundation for Ayahuasca Purple was a Red River Delta, whose seeds Barney's Farm, by its own account, received as a gift years ago. The landrace comes from northern Vietnam and caught the breeder's attention during test growing with leaves and flowers in red to violet tones. Crossing it with Master Kush produced a strain that Barney's Farm lists as a pure indica and offers only as feminized seeds.
Figures differ on the indica share: the breeder states 100 %, while other strain descriptions speak of a predominantly indica-leaning plant or of 70 % indica. Several breeders have used Ayahuasca Purple as a parent, including Red Scare Seed Company for Cherry Ayahuasca with Cherry Tahoe, Landrace Bureau for Ayahuasca Purple Haze with Neville's Haze and The Bakery Genetics for Eskimo Kissez with Wedding Cake. Lemon Cherry Garcia and Red River Alien come from Happy Bird Seeds.
Barney's Farm describes the scent as papaya, earth, flowers and sweetness, and the flavor as lavender, mango, nut and tropical fruit; in a magazine article by the breeder, pungent notes are added. Other descriptions emphasize hazelnut, pepper and earth. In consumer reports, papaya, herbs and nut recur, occasionally also incense or citrus with a hint of pine and toasted nut.
A Canadian producer reports 2.97 % terpenes for its indoor flower, led by limonene at 0.91 % ahead of farnesene at 0.69 %, myrcene at 0.31 %, caryophyllene at 0.27 % and linalool at 0.19 %. Other strain descriptions, by contrast, name myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by pinene and limonene.
At the center of the reports is a heavy, body-focused relaxation that turns into drowsiness. Consumers also describe a tingling in the body, in one case to the point of numb fingers. Several reports describe a delayed onset followed by a strong effect. In contrast, individual reports mention euphoria, silliness and creativity, once initial clarity before the sedation, once a sustained déjà vu feeling. Barney's Farm speaks of possible psychedelic aspects, as does one consumer report. Dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness are named as side effects.
Barney's Farm gives 24 % THC, while the breeder's magazine article mentions more than 20 %. The breeder gives no CBD value, even though a strain description written by the breeder speaks of high THC and CBD content. Other strain descriptions vary widely: one gives 21 % THC and 2 % CBD, another 10 % THC and 0 % CBD.
According to Barney's Farm, the strain flowers for 55 to 65 days and yields 500 to 600 g/m² indoors at a height of 90 to 110 cm. Outdoors, the breeder states 800 g per plant at 120 to 150 cm and a harvest in the 3rd to 4th week of September. Other strain descriptions put flowering at about 50 days. The breeder describes broad fan leaves, a compact structure and very dense buds that should be supported in the last week of flowering so that branches do not break. The plant is considered sensitive to overfeeding and is listed for indoor, outdoor and greenhouse growing.
In the test grow that Barney's Farm published in a cannabis magazine in 2022, the seeds germinated in less than 3 days. The plants branched early and stayed open because of wide internodes; after 60 days of flowering, 203 g of dry weight came together.
Reports on growth contradict each other. One grower describes very bushy, high-yielding plants with broad fan leaves and attributes the deep violet coloring to genetics, not cold. Another indoor report describes slim, stretched plants with few side shoots that grew from about 30 to 110 cm after the changeover and only turned violet in the last 2 weeks of flowering. There, flowering took 65 days, the dried buds were hard and compact, and the plants tolerated fluctuations in feeding and temperature without mold, which contradicts the described sensitivity to fertilizer. According to that report, they should not be cut back heavily.
In the 2nd run, the first grower saw some plants ready for harvest after 50 days, others only after more than 60; the first time, by their own assessment, they had harvested too early after around 8 weeks. They reached 379 g, with large buds that were still leafy. Another grower reports that the strain responds well to training. Sticky resin and plentiful trichomes are mentioned in several reports.
Vancouver Seed Bank offers Ayahuasca Purple with the same parentage as feminized seeds and gives 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 500 to 650 g/m² indoors, up to 800 g per plant outdoors, as well as 20 to 24 % THC and 1.4 to 2.0 % CBD. Growers Lab lists an Ayahuasca Purple Auto as a feminized autoflower with 21 % THC, up to 300 g/m² indoors and up to 350 g per plant outdoors; the flowering time of 55 to 65 days stated there matches the figure from Barney's Farm for the photoperiod original.
