In Apple Kush, smell and taste go separate ways. According to strain descriptions, the buds smell earthy and sour, of diesel and peppery herbs with a touch of floral sweetness. The apple the name alludes to shows up mainly in the taste, as a tart green apple accompanied by sweet fruit. The strain is traced back to Sour Diesel and Pure Kush; who made the cross is not known.
Aroma and Flavor:
Apple and diesel are consistently in the foreground of the strain descriptions. Mint, citrus, herbs, a sour note and fruity sweetness also appear. One description adds a chemical note, another compares the scent to apple peel.
User reports describe sweet green apple with diesel over an earthy base in the smell, and apple with floral and earthy parts in the taste. One report mentions a subtle sweetness reminiscent of honeysuckle. In contrast, one consumer noticed more citrus in the smell, and another found the taste decidedly unpleasant.
Strain descriptions list myrcene as the dominant terpene. One names pinene and caryophyllene after it, another lists limonene and caryophyllene alongside myrcene.
Genetics and Origin:
The lineage from Sour Diesel and Pure Kush is repeated in several descriptions, but no breeder has confirmed it. One description mentions a differing account in which Pure OG is part of the line. As long as the breeder remains unknown, neither variant is established.
The classification is inconsistent as well. Several descriptions list Apple Kush as an indica-dominant hybrid with 70 % indica and 30 % sativa, another rates it as sativa-leaning, and a further one gives 40 % indica and 60 % sativa.
Effects:
According to user reports, the effects begin with a tingling sensation, followed by euphoria and relaxation. Consumers describe elevated mood and giddiness, others drive and focus. One report says the strain was sleep-inducing, and one strain description considers couch-lock possible. Assessments of strength differ: some call the effects deep and strong or stronger than expected, others rather mild.
Strain descriptions list dry eyes, dry mouth and dizziness as side effects. In one user report, dry eyes occurred together with headaches.
THC and CBD Content:
The potency figures are far apart. One strain description gives 15 to 18 % THC and 1 % CBD, another 21 % THC and 1 % CBG, a third a range of 7.5 to 19 % THC. In one user report, a consumer with high tolerance barely felt any effect.
Cultivation:
For indoor cultivation, strain descriptions give a flowering time of 7 to 9 weeks, with a Mediterranean climate preferred. Outdoors, according to one description, harvest falls in early October. The same source describes the strain as well suited to the screen-of-green method (SCROG).
The buds are described as long and tapering in light yellow-green. A further description mentions orange pistils and dense trichome coverage, and one user report light green buds heavily coated in resin.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Crop King Seeds lists its own version with feminized seeds, likewise with the lineage Sour Diesel × Pure Kush. For this version Crop King states 7 to 9 weeks of flowering, indoor 400 to 500 g/m² at 90 to 120 cm in height and outdoor 500 g per plant at 120 to 150 cm, harvested between late September and early October. The supplier puts the THC content at 18 to 24 % and rates the cultivation as moderately difficult. It describes compact growth with strong lateral branching, a high calyx-to-leaf ratio and good suitability for SCROG.
