Lemon Tree

Strong vertical growth made Lemon Tree stand out in a documented grow with seeds from NWG Genetics: the plant overtopped all the others in the tent, even though it was topped once, tied down continuously with LST and held back by supercropping before flowering. A strain description likewise classes the variety as tall-growing and advises topping and cutting back. Genetically it traces back to Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel, its origin lies in California, and no breeder is named in the record.

Cultivation:

In this grow, harvest took place after 65 days of flowering; in hindsight the grower considered a few more days appropriate. The colas turned out thick and dense, and a little over 3 ounces of dried flower were collected. Even during flowering the plant smelled strongly of skunk and gasoline.

Assessments of difficulty differ. Barneys Farm describes its version as robust and easy to cultivate even for beginners, and a grower who has worked with the variety for longer calls it uncomplicated and high-yielding. Other strain descriptions rate cultivation as moderately difficult and easy to moderate, respectively. Warm, sunny locations are named; one description also considers the greenhouse suitable.

Genetics and Origin:

Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel are the parents given by breeders and strain descriptions. Several descriptions as well as Paisa Grow Seeds place the origin in Santa Cruz, whereas Elev8 Seeds speaks of an elite clone from Southern California. One strain description also reports a different lineage attributed to Creekside Concentrates of Santa Cruz: Las Vegas Lemon Skunk crossed with The OG #18. Lemon Tree Kush is a common alias.

A 2nd place in the Best U.S. Hybrid category at the 2014 High Times Cannabis Cup in Seattle is documented, with the variety submitted by Creek Side. Several strain descriptions turn this into a win and additionally cite a 1st place in San Francisco; however, Lemon Tree does not appear in the published results list of that 2014 cup. A 1st place at the 2016 Santa Cruz Cup in the outdoor hybrid category and an 8th place at the 2017 Emerald Cup are also named.

As a parent, the variety is documented in Gelonade by Connected, a cross with Gelato #41, and in Melonade by Paisa Grow Seeds, whose second parent is Watermelon Zkittlez.

Aroma and Flavor:

Lemon and diesel shape the profile, with skunk added. Barneys Farm describes sour lemon with skunk and diesel notes on the nose and tropical fruit in the flavor for its version, while further strain descriptions add earthy and spicy tones. In the grow mentioned, the aroma shifted markedly toward Sour Diesel after curing; citrus notes remained, a clear lemon did not. User reports range from a full lemon profile to a flavor found unpleasant.

Strain descriptions list myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene as dominant terpenes. For its own version, Barneys Farm emphasizes high levels of limonene and myrcene.

Effects:

User reports describe a stimulating effect with good mood, focus and creativity, often combined with talkativeness, giddiness and physical relaxation. The grower from the documented grow found it energizing, though the thoughts somewhat jumpy. Deviating from this, individual consumers report strong sedation up to couchlock at higher doses, others nervous restlessness and anxiety. Side effects include dry mouth and dry eyes; strain descriptions additionally name dizziness and headaches.

THC Content:

One strain description gives a range of 13 to 26 % THC for Lemon Tree. Barneys Farm states 26 % for its version, Silent Seeds 22 to 24 % for Lemon Tree Fast.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Elev8 Seeds draws on the original clone, while the other providers list their own crosses. NWG Genetics also sells seeds under the name.

• Elev8 Seeds, Lemon Tree S1: selfing of the original clone, feminized, 7 to 8 weeks of flowering, 500 to 600 g/m² indoors and 400 to 1,000 g per plant outdoors, compact growth with low to medium stretch, harvest early October.
• Silent Seeds, Lemon Tree Fast: fast-flowering cross of Lemon Skunk Auto IX5 and Original Lemon Tree, feminized, 55 to 58 days of flowering, 600 g/m² indoors and 1,200 g per plant outdoors at 2 to 2.2 m height. The breeder traces the project back to a meeting with Matthew Rockwell in 2019 in Santa Cruz.
• Heisenbeans Genetics, Lemon Tree Auto: Lemon Tree of the 5th generation crossed with a Short Stuff #1 autoflower line, feminized, 9 to 11 weeks from sowing to harvest, stretch during flowering of 1.3 to 1.5 times.
