Line of the original breeder, now offered through Old World Genetics. According to the breeder, about 80 % Indica, medium to tall with long side branches, dense flowers with red, purple, and blue tones, usually lavender-blue after drying; productive under optimal conditions. Seed type not stated on the breeder's page; one strain description (database) lists only regular seed.
Blueberry
also known as Berry Blue, True Blueberry
Blueberry is an Indica-dominant strain by DJ Short bred from Thai, Afghani, and Oaxaca lines, known for its blueberry aroma and blue-purple colored flowers.
Ripe blueberries, along with vanilla and an earthy base: this is the aroma profile used by breeders, in strain descriptions, and in consumer reports to describe Blueberry. The strain traces back to DJ Short, who developed it in Eugene, Oregon, in the late 1970s from lines out of Thailand, Afghanistan, and Mexico; in 2000 it won the Indica category at the High Times Cannabis Cup.
Aroma and Flavor:
Dutch Passion compares the smell of its version to sweet blueberry jam, while one strain description adds mint, grapefruit, and cantaloupe melon. DJ Short's line is described with vanilla and sugar, elsewhere with spice, floral notes, and occasionally diesel. Consumer reports draw comparisons to blueberry muffins and shortbread; one report, by contrast, found the aroma faint and slightly sour.
Genetics and Origin:
According to his son JD Short, DJ Short started with Thai, Chocolate Thai, Afghan, and Oaxacan. Contrary to the common practice of the time, he used Sativa females as mothers and Indica males as fathers; the characteristic phenotype reportedly appeared around 1979.
The intermediate steps are reported differently. One detailed lineage names Temple Flo, bred from Purple Thai and Afghani, and HTAF from Thai and Afghani as parents; Purple Thai is said to derive in turn from Highland Oaxaca Gold and Chocolate Thai. Dutch Passion describes an Afghan Indica base with Thai Sativa and a smaller Oaxaca share, while another strain description mentions only Purple Thai and Thai. The ratio is consistently given as roughly 80 % Indica to 20 % Sativa.
According to Dutch Passion, Blueberry reached the Dutch market in 1998 through a collaboration with DJ Short. At the 2000 Cannabis Cup, the Dutch Passion entry won the Indica category. The overall win also went to a Blueberry, submitted according to one retrospective by a coffeeshop; one strain description, however, attributes this title to Dutch Passion. In 2001 it followed up with 2nd place overall and 3rd place among Indicas.
Blue Dream is tentatively traced back to Blueberry and Super Silver Haze. Documented descendants also include 90s Blues by DJ Short, Afghan Blue by Rare Dankness Seeds, and All Blues by Gage Green Genetics.
Effects:
Consumer reports emphasize a body-focused relaxation ranging from a floating sensation to marked heaviness; several reports describe pronounced sleepiness, others an uplifted mood and calm. The onset of effects is described variously, from around 15 minutes to a noticeably delayed start. Dutch Passion describes the effect of its version as clear and euphoric, DJ Short as euphoric and long-lasting. Reported side effects include dry mouth, dry eyes, and dizziness, in one case lasting around 40 minutes.
Lab Results:
For DJ Short's line, 2 measurements from 2012 are available, carried out via thin-layer chromatography at laboratories in Seattle and on Bainbridge Island. These found 17 and 20 % THC, 0.2 % CBD in each case, 0.3 to 0.9 % CBG, and 0.2 to 0.5 % THCV; CBN was reported at 0 %. Such figures vary depending on batch, cultivation, and phenotype. Strain descriptions name myrcene as the leading terpene, one of them explicitly based on lab analyses, followed by caryophyllene and pinene in varying order.
Cultivation:
DJ Short describes dense flowers that shift through red and purple into blue, usually appearing lavender-blue after drying, along with abundant sticky resin and medium to large calyxes. According to Dutch Passion, cool temperatures intensify the purple and blue tones.
Accounts of growth habit and yield diverge. DJ Short describes his F5 as medium to tall with long side branches and productive under optimal conditions. One strain description, by contrast, rates the yield as slightly below average and gives 45 to 55 days of flowering at 70 to 100 cm of indoor height; descriptions rate the difficulty as moderate.
Versions from Different Breeders:
DJ Short today offers his own line as Blueberry F5 through Old World Genetics; one strain description lists it only as regular seed. Dutch Passion offers Blueberry in feminized and regular form. For this photoperiod version, the breeder states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 350 to 450 g/m² indoors, and more than 2 kg per plant outdoors under favorable conditions at a possible height of 2.5 to 3 m, with harvest from early to mid-autumn. Dutch Passion describes the plants as compact with short internodes, and the THC content at around 20 %.
Under the name Auto Blueberry, Dutch Passion also offers an autoflowering variant. In an indoor grow documented by the breeder, 2 plants stayed under 50 cm, reached harvest after 11 to 12 weeks from germination, and yielded 43 and 30 g.

According to Dutch Passion, brought to the Dutch market in 1998 through a collaboration with DJ Short. Outdoor harvest from early to mid-autumn; compact growth with sturdy stems, large fan leaves, and short internodes; THC about 20 %; prefers a mild to temperate climate with plenty of sun, cold promotes purple and blue coloring; according to the breeder, not the easiest strain for beginners. Outdoor yield given as a lower limit (over 2 kg per plant under favorable conditions).

Figures come from a third-party report (Cartier Crops), not from the breeder's page; height there given in feet (3 to 4 ft indoors), therefore not adopted here; according to the report, cooler nights intensify the purple and blue tones.
