White Rhino

All evaluated descriptions confirm that White Widow is one of the two parents of White Rhino. They disagree on the second parent: Green House Seeds names a selected Afghan indica, Nirvana Seeds a Canadian indica, other descriptions an unspecified North American indica. The earliest documented version is the one from Green House Seeds, which took 2nd place in the Bio category at the 1996 High Times Cannabis Cup.

Genetics and Origin:

White Widow goes back to a Brazilian sativa and a South Indian indica. Together with the Afghan indica, this gives the origin designation Afghan x Brazilian x South Indian, under which Green House Seeds lists the strain at 80 % indica and 20 % sativa. According to the breeder, a 2nd place at the Champions Cup followed in 2005. Another strain description assigns this to the Hydro category of the Spannabis Champions Cup and also names a 2nd place in the Bio category in 2007.

Nirvana Seeds describes its White Rhino as an F1 hybrid with White Widow as the mother. The Canadian father is said to contribute more indica heritage, which is why the plants stay more compact and somewhat shorter. Zamnesia names Maple Leaf Indica as the crossing partner.

As a parent, White Rhino is found among others in Romulan, a cross with North American Indica, and in Pink Rhino from Pink Kush and White Rhino. Albino Rhino, Blue Rhino and Blackberry Rhino also come from the Green House version.

Aroma and Flavor:

Green House Seeds describes the scent as earthy and musky with a hint of hashish, the taste as sweet and fruity. Earth and hashish also appear in other descriptions, supplemented by honey in the scent, diesel in the taste and woody notes. Lemon, diesel and coffee are named for the Nirvana version. As dominant terpenes, Green House Seeds lists myrcene, α-pinene and β-caryophyllene, another description myrcene, pinene and terpinolene.

Effects:

Green House Seeds attributes a strongly sedating, long-lasting effect to the strain, described as weaker and more relaxing than White Widow. In user reports, relaxation, sleepiness and a tingling in the body stand out, and some also describe euphoria, giddiness or talkativeness.

Grow reports rate the strength differently: several describe it as strong, one as rather mild and short. Tolerance built up very quickly in 2 reports and very slowly in 2 others. Dry mouth, dry eyes and headaches are named as unwanted side effects.

THC and CBD Content:

Green House Seeds gives 20.19 % THC, 0.11 % CBD and 0.05 % CBN for its version. For the Zamnesia version, 19 % THC and 0 to 1 % CBD are named; Bulk Seeds puts its figures at a minimum of 20 % THC and 3 % CBD. Without reference to a breeder, White Rhino is listed with 21 % THC and 1 % CBG.

Cultivation:

According to Green House Seeds, the plant stays medium-sized, has short internodes, grows wider rather than taller and suits SOG and SCROG well. Another description, by contrast, stresses pronounced stretching in the first 3 weeks of flowering and names warm, rather dry conditions as favorable.

In 8 evaluated indoor grows of the Green House version, flowering took 54 to 65 days. The growers consistently describe a stocky, indica-like growth habit and hard, dense buds. The flower-to-leaf ratio was moderate to poor in 7 of the 8 reports. Yields ranged from very low to very high, and stretching varied as well: one plant grew from 30 to 65 cm, another from 30 to 110 cm. In 4 reports the plants needed support during flowering; 2 growers managed well with topping and supercropping. Reports on mold differ: 2 growers noticed no susceptibility, 2 others did. The strain is considered suitable for beginners in 5 reports, but only for seasoned growers in one.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Green House Seeds gives 8 to 9 weeks of flowering and 550 to 900 g/m² indoors, and outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere a harvest in the first week of October at 750 to 1,200 g per plant. Nirvana Seeds names 9 to 11 weeks and 400 to 500 g/m² in SOG. Bulk Seeds, whose strain text largely matches that of Nirvana, gives 52 to 64 days and at least 600 g/m². For the Zamnesia version, up to 500 g/m² and a height of 140 cm are named indoors, up to 1,000 g per plant and 180 cm outdoors. All 4 versions are listed as feminized seeds.

One grow report on the Nirvana version documents stretching from 40 to 125 cm. Geistgrow lists its own cross of White Rhino and Geist Grow OG under the name.
