Breeder statement on genetics: Thai Sticks x Cambodian x Laotian, supplemented with Jamaican Haze lines and Afghan-Hawaiian genetics; 70 % sativa, 30 % indica; minimum yield stated as 35 to 40 grams, without a reference unit
Amnesia Haze is a sativa-dominant hybrid that Soma assembled in Amsterdam around 2003 from Asian, Jamaican and Afghan-Hawaiian lines; in 2004 it won the Cannabis Cup.
In indoor grow reports, the flowering time of Amnesia Haze ranges from 65 to 90 days, averaging around 79 days; plants that measured about 30 cm at the start of flowering reached around 180 cm by harvest. Behind this spread stands a sativa-dominant hybrid that breeder Soma assembled in Amsterdam around 2003 from Southeast Asian, Jamaican and Afghan-Hawaiian lines.
Soma Seeds describes the cross as a combination of Thai, Cambodian and Laotian with Jamaican Haze lines and Afghan-Hawaiian genetics intended to shorten the flowering time; the breeder states 70 % sativa and 30 % indica. Barney's Farm lists Jamaican, Thai, South Asia and Cambodia for its own version, along with 80 % sativa and 20 % indica. A second origin story also persists, according to which the original was created in the USA in the 1990s from Thai, Hawaiian, Jamaican and Afghan genetics and only later crossed with Neville's Haze in the Netherlands; Zwiep of Hy-Pro is named as the originator of this cross. For a cut grown in Switzerland and distributed as prescription flower, Skunk Haze x Northern Lights #5 is in turn given as the parent pair.
Several cup wins are documented: in 2004 the strain won the overall category at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam, followed by a first place at the IC 420 Growers Cup in 2005, and a first place in the sativa category of the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2012. As a parent it appears, among others, in Amnesia Lemon by Barney's Farm, Memory Loss by Archive Seed Bank, Critical Haze by Resin Seeds and Amnesia OG by NorStar Genetics.
Lemon, lime and a diesel-like undertone are the defining notes, consistently across grow reports. Descriptions add incense, old wood and leather as background notes, while Barney's Farm names earthy and spicy accents alongside the citrus for its own line. Terpene data diverge: in some cases myrcene ranks first, followed by caryophyllene and limonene, in others terpinolene leads alongside caryophyllene, ocimene, humulene and myrcene.
Consumption reports describe a head-focused, euphoric effect with drive, talkativeness and giggliness, repeatedly linked to heightened concentration. Onset is described as delayed, in some cases only after about 15 minutes. Accompanying effects include dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness, increased appetite and brief memory lapses; sensitive consumers report racing thoughts up to paranoid reactions. In contrast, some growers describe a heavy, sedating effect from their own harvest.
Breeders state different levels for their versions: Barney's Farm names 24 % THC, Royal Queen Seeds up to 22 % for the photoperiod version and up to 18 % for the autoflowering version. For flowers of this strain dispensed on prescription in Germany, declared levels of 13 to 28 % THC with CBD shares under 1 % are listed; for a single batch of medical flower, 23 % THC was reported. Values vary considerably with batch, growing conditions and phenotype.
Soma Seeds estimates 10 to 12 weeks of flowering and notes that individual plants may need up to 13 weeks; outdoors, harvest extends into November. The plants stretch strongly during flowering and develop numerous long, sturdy side branches that, according to grow reports, should be supported. The same reports describe them as unaffected by mold and low temperatures, with another description additionally noting resistance to pests. In the final weeks before harvest, the smell is described as very intense. Soma itself calls cultivation a mild challenge requiring patience, while other accounts classify the strain as uncomplicated and as a suitable mother plant.
Soma Seeds sells the original as feminized and regular. Royal Queen Seeds states 65 to 70 days of flowering for the feminized version, 600 to 650 g/m² indoors and a height of 80 to 140 cm. Barney's Farm states 70 to 85 days for its own feminized line, up to 650 g/m² and up to 1000 g per plant, with a height of 140 cm indoors and 200 cm outdoors. Two autoflowering offshoots are based on ruderalis crosses: Royal Queen Seeds sets 75 to 85 days from germination to harvest for Amnesia Haze Automatic, with 350 to 400 g/m² and a height of 50 to 100 cm, while Barney's Farm states 65 to 70 days for Amnesia Haze Auto, with 500 to 600 g/m² and 90 to 110 cm.
