Sour Joker is a sativa-dominant cross by HortiLab from its own ECSD-v3 male parent and an Amnesia Haze cutting, described with diesel and citrus aroma.

Research as of 10/28/2026

For Sour Joker, the seed company HortiLab crossed its own ECSD-v3 male parent with a cutting that circulated under the name Amnesia Haze. The breeder's description explicitly distinguishes this clone: it is not the original Amnesia cutting on which HortiLab's Sour Amnesia is based. HortiLab lists the cross as predominantly sativa-dominant and has released it only as regular seed.

Genetics and Origin:

ECSD stands for East Coast Sour Diesel. Descriptions that name no breeder list the same combination of Amnesia Haze and East Coast Sour Diesel, in part under the short name Joker, and put the sativa share at 80 %. Whether the flowers described there come from HortiLab seed is not clear from them.

Sour Joker serves as a parent in Jesters Wine by Stank Face Seeds, a cross with Fine Wine. Despite the similar name, Sour Jokerz by Loyal 2 Tha Soil is a separate strain, derived from East Coast Sour Diesel and Jokerz #31.

Aroma and Flavor:

Diesel and citrus, mostly described as lemon, form the base note in the strain descriptions, supplemented by earthy and spicy, occasionally also floral notes. Individual descriptions set other accents and mention pine, sweetness, berries or sour cherry, as well as a chemical character that is perceived as harsh. In user reports the range runs from a very pungent smell with a woody finish to a strikingly clean, mild smoke.

A press report on a live resin extract of the strain first describes sour tropical fruit with passion fruit, mango and bergamot, beneath it hot diesel and a note of industrial cleaner. On vaporizing, mint and eucalyptus came to the fore.

The terpene profile is reported inconsistently. Caryophyllene, limonene and pinene are named most often, other descriptions also give terpinolene and myrcene; one puts terpinolene first, another valencene.

Effects:

User reports describe a stimulating state with quick onset, bringing energy, concentration, elevated mood and euphoria, along with creativity and, for some consumers, silliness and talkativeness. Several describe a clear head and the urge to become physically active.

There are clear dissenting voices. Some consumers find the strain more relaxing, one report describes it as sedating toward evening, another links it with tiredness and tingling. A press report describes mainly cheerfulness after brief clarity but little mental stimulation, while a strain description reports scattered thoughts instead of focus. Whether appetite increases is perceived differently.

Reported side effects include anxiety, paranoia, dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness; one description also mentions increased thirst and manic-seeming behavior at low tolerance.

THC and CBD Content:

THC figures in strain descriptions range between 20 and 28 %, CBD figures between 0.43 and 1 %. Individual descriptions also list CBG, with values from 0.1 to 2 %. None of these sources names a laboratory.

Cultivation:

HortiLab gives the flowering time as around 70 days and describes the strain as suitable for indoor cultivation. The breeder has never offered feminized seeds. Other strain descriptions give different, in part shorter flowering times and rate cultivation as easy in some cases and a task for advanced growers in others.
