Purple Poison

Rising Sun Cultivars lists 4 phenotypes grown from seed for Purple Poison, all described as fast-flowering: one indica-dominant, 3 sativa-dominant, one of which grows more stretched than the other, compact plants. Bio Bomb Selections has brought several specimens of this F1 into its own crosses and highlights a selection numbered 2 as high-yielding; its smell reminds the breeder of spicy grapes. According to Rising Sun Cultivars, the strain goes back to a cross of Purple Urkle and Tangerine Dream, which was then paired with a Durban Poison from Colorado.

Cultivation:

Rising Sun Cultivars gives roughly 70 days for flowering and names indoor, outdoor and greenhouse as growing locations. Seed of this version is documented only in regular form; this breeder never offered it feminized.

One strain description portrays rather loosely structured, light green buds with purple tones, yellow-orange hairs and a layer of trichomes. A user report also highlights the coloration of the buds.

Genetics and Origin:

Tangerine Dream, one of the grandparents, originates from Barney's Farm according to pedigree data and combines G13 with a cross of G13 and Neville's Haze. Purple Urkle is listed there as a clone of unknown, predominantly indica-dominant ancestry. Rising Sun Cultivars itself classes Purple Poison as predominantly sativa-dominant.

Crop King Seeds and a strain description name only Purple Urkle and Tangerine Dream as parents and leave out Durban Poison. Another description lists all parent lines but classes the strain as an indica-dominant hybrid at 60 % indica.

Bio Bomb Selections has used the strain several times over: Durango Fruitage came from Lemon Twizzler and a male Purple Poison, Purple 710 Gum from Indiana Bubblegum by 710 Genetics. Spiced Plum Jam and a cross of selection number 2 with a Cambodian highland sativa follow.

Aroma and Flavor:

For flavor, Rising Sun Cultivars describes floral grape with citrus, clove and spices and a pine finish. The male plants that Bio Bomb Selections used smelled of grape with mint and citrus, or of spicy, artificial-seeming grapes, respectively. Other strain descriptions put the emphasis on wood, earth and pine, and one adds skunk and black pepper. β-Caryophyllene is given there as the dominant terpene, followed by pinene and limonene. A user report compares the taste to a perfume of orange and herbs.

Effects:

According to Rising Sun Cultivars, the head stays clear while a tingle sets in throughout the body, without the strain pushing the user heavily into the seat. In the 7 user reports reviewed, relaxation is mentioned repeatedly, often together with focus, creativity or talkativeness. In some cases a slow onset is described. The reports diverge on whether the strain tends to energize or to make tired: some mention energy, others drowsiness. Dry mouth and dry eyes appear as side effects.

THC and CBD Content:

FESA Labs has a single measurement from 2024 on a product sold under this name: 30.01 % THCA, equivalent to 26.58 % total THC; CBD was below the detection limit. Which genetics underlay the product is not stated. One strain description, by contrast, gives 16 % THC. The breeder figures apply to each breeder's own version: Crop King Seeds gives 22 to 24 % THC and under 1 % CBD, Aeque Genetics 23.5 % THC and 1 % CBD.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Genetically unrelated strains also exist under this name. Baked Beanz crossed Snake Venom with a small-growing Granddaddy Purple male and gives roughly 65 days of flowering; the seeds are regular, and the plants can be grown indoors as well as outdoors. Purple Poison Cookies goes back to this line. Aeque Genetics uses the name for a feminized autoflower strain from Poisonous Skunk OG and a purple phenotype of the same line, designed for indoor cultivation, with a flowering time of about 70 days. The breeder describes vigorous plants with thick buds and a sweet smell of grape and skunk. A cross of Grape Gas and White Runt is also documented under this name as a flower product.

Crop King Seeds lists Purple Poison as a feminized strain. For this version the supplier gives 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 300 to 400 g/m² indoors and 400 to 500 g per plant outdoors, with harvest in October. According to its information, a warm, Mediterranean climate is preferred; Crop King Seeds rates the plants as small and pest-resistant and the cultivation as suitable for beginners.
