Whether Cherry Durban Poison is a cross in its own right or merely a selection remains open in the sources. Several strain descriptions list it as a phenotype of Durban Poison, whose lineage traces back to the South African port city of Durban, and see the pronounced cherry aroma as the difference from the parent strain. Another description regards it as a cross of Durban Poison and an unknown indica. The breeder is considered unknown.

Genetics and Origin:

The classification also varies between sources. One description speaks of a sativa-dominant hybrid, while two others give a balanced ratio of 50 % sativa and 50 % indica, one of which elsewhere describes the strain itself as sativa-dominant. One of the user reports states that the strain differs clearly from Durban Poison.

Aroma and Flavor:

For the smell, strain descriptions name cherry, flowers and earth. The flavor adds pine and herbs, and other descriptions add mint, lavender and a sweet note on the finish. One strain description instead puts berries first and lists blueberry alongside floral tones.

The user reports bring their own comparisons: cherry licorice, dried cherries over a fuel-like undertone, sweet berry with pine in the flavor, or the familiar Durban Poison smell overlaid with fruit. One report finds the cherry and mint in the aroma rather subtle.
