- Flowering
- 60 days
A separate strain that one strain description lists as a second name of Blueberry Haze. Cross of Homegrown Haze and Blueberry; 1st place at the High Times Cannabis Cup 2001 in the Best Sativa category; flowering around 60 days.
Blueberry Haze combines Blueberry with a Haze; several breeders offer their own versions with different Haze lines, and a sweet blueberry aroma is described.
Sweet and blueberry-like: this is the core on which the aroma descriptions of Blueberry Haze, a cross of Blueberry and Haze, converge. Beyond that, the accounts diverge. One strain description adds earthy and slightly spicy notes, another woody and herbal undertones and an aftertaste with hints of pine and some mint. Several versions from different breeders circulate under the name, and they already differ in their Haze line.
User reports mention blueberry and berry notes with pronounced sweetness, occasionally with an herbal undertone. In one report the flavor is described as earthy and sweet, while in another the smell recalled cigarette tobacco. One consumer found the smoke harsh and had to cough heavily. For their versions, the breeders set their own accents: DNA Genetics emphasizes fruity blueberry, IZI Seeds sweet lemon with an earthy and spicy side, Fatbush Seeds a strong berry scent. Strain descriptions list myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene as the predominant terpenes.
Which Haze was involved depends on the version. DNA Genetics crossed Blueberry with Haze Special, a line from Neville's Haze and KC 606. IZI Seeds used the Blueberry from DJ Short and Super Silver Haze from Green House Seeds. For a version that originated in Germany, was passed on only as a cutting and first circulated in Vienna, a Haze #1 of unknown origin is listed as a parent. An original breeder of the name is not clearly documented.
The classification is correspondingly contradictory: DNA Genetics lists its version as 80 % Indica, Fatbush Seeds its own as 80 % Sativa. A general strain description gives 60 % Sativa and lists Blue Haze as a second name. However, Blue Haze from Homegrown Fantaseeds is a separate cross of Homegrown Haze and Blueberry that took 1st place in the Best Sativa category at the High Times Cannabis Cup 2001. Bear Creek Kush is listed as an offspring of Blueberry Haze.
For flowering time, IZI Seeds gives 65 to 70 days, DNA Genetics around 67 days and Fatbush Seeds 9 to 10 weeks indoors. IZI Seeds also states 400 to 600 g/m² indoors, 250 to 500 g per plant outdoors, a height of 130 to 200 cm and an outdoor harvest in mid-October for its feminized version. Fatbush Seeds, also feminized only, gives 675 g/m² indoors, 550 g of dried flowers per plant outdoors and harvest readiness in late October; the plants are said to be mold-resistant and to respond well to SCROG and LST.
The DNA Genetics version was released only as regular seeds. According to the breeder, it flowers early and is intended for indoor use, but also gives usable results outdoors. During flowering it changes color through red and violet to blue, and after curing a lavender-blue tone usually remains.
User reports describe a euphoric, cheerful effect with a tendency to laugh, plus tingling, drive, creativity and focus; others highlight relaxation and talkativeness. One report, by contrast, describes listlessness and lack of focus, another a quality that varies from time to time. Several consumers rate the strain as strong, and one reported a delayed onset. Dry mouth and dry eyes are named as side effects, occasionally paranoia; one strain description adds dizziness and red eyes.
IZI Seeds describes a strong, cerebral onset that turns into relaxation after about 3 hours. Fatbush Seeds describes the course in a similar two-stage way, and DNA Genetics emphasizes the long duration of effect.
A general strain description gives 15 to 25 % THC and 0.1 to 1 % CBD. Of the breeders, only IZI Seeds states a content, at 19 % THC for its own version.
General descriptions give 9 to 10 weeks of flowering, a moderate difficulty level and a warm, sunny Mediterranean-type climate; indoor and outdoor cultivation are considered suitable.
A documented outdoor grow of the cutting version at an altitude of 700 m yielded 270 g of dried flowers. The plant grew bushy and compact, with many side shoots of above-average length. It demanded a lot of fertilizer but reacted sensitively to over- as well as underfeeding, tolerated temperature fluctuations and remained free of fungal infestation and mold. It accepted topping of the main shoot well and needed supports during flowering. The dried flowers were hard and compact, with a high flower-to-leaf ratio and heavy resin coverage. According to the grower, cultivation was not difficult, but it required constant attention.
