The One is a cross of Highland Thai and Kandahar Afghani that is attributed to Clackamas Coots and passed on in Oregon only as a cutting.

Research as of 11/01/2026

A 1976 Highland Thai and a 1971 Kandahar Afghani are the parents of The One, a cross attributed to Clackamas Coots. According to strain descriptions, the plant is passed on in Oregon only as a cutting, and only within a small circle of breeders and growers. A genetically unrelated strain from the Blueberry line also exists under the same name.

Genetics and Origin:

Both parent lines are regarded as landraces. One strain description traces the sativa traits to the Thai side and the dense resin coverage to the Afghan side. The One is classed as a balanced hybrid; another description puts sativa and indica at 50 % each. According to one strain description, Coots stabilized the F1 in 1984.

Besides The 1, Thai x Afghan and BC1 appear as aliases. The abbreviation BC1 also appears in the name of a backcross by MOB Seeds: for The One BC1, The One was crossed with Lotus, which itself came from The One and Velvet Rush. Swami Organic Seed combined The One with a Panama landrace to make The One x Panama and names Kandahar Afghani, Thai Stick and Panama as expressions that show up in the offspring.

Aroma and Flavor:

Pine and lemon run through the strain descriptions, accompanied by earthy and spicy notes; 2 of them recall varnish and freshly varnished wood. In user reports the strain tastes sweet with a pine note. Individual consumers mention pepper and spices, a scent reminiscent of hops, or strong black tea on the exhale, and one report mentions an aftertaste of berry and mint. One strain description lists myrcene as the dominant terpene, ahead of limonene and caryophyllene; another puts caryophyllene in first place.

Effects:

User reports describe a balanced course. At first the effect lifts the mood and stimulates, then physical relaxation sets in without the head feeling clouded. Focus and creativity are mentioned repeatedly, as is a tingling in the body at the start. Other consumers found the strain sleep-inducing or describe it as stony in the style of older strains.

Reported side effects include dry eyes and dry mouth, as well as anxious restlessness. One report mentions a sharp sensation in the chest.

THC and CBD Content:

Strain descriptions give 15 to 17 % and 18 % THC respectively, the second figure together with 0 % CBD. For a single batch, one user report gives 11 to 12 % THC.

Community Experiences:

Several reports classify The One as an old-school strain and describe it as hard to get outside Oregon. The buds are small and densely covered in trichomes; in one report the resin felt almost oily. Observations on color differ: one consumer describes buds that are more purple than green, another light green ones with orange hairs.

Versions from Different Breeders:

A plant of the same name, which came from Blueberry Sativa and a cross of Killa Queen and NYCD, has nothing to do with the Coots line. Its breeder selected it in 2006 for its growth and describes it as a plant that stretches little in flower. According to the breeder, the smell starts out typical of blueberry and turns sour and pungent from mid-flower, with hints of grape and berry. Sannie's Seeds used this selection as a parent of Killing Fields F2, Madonna and Sugar Punch.
