On a trip to Jamaica, the Eva Seeds breeders collected seed in 2007 from which they selected Jamaican Dream. The breeder classes the feminized strain as 90 % sativa and 10 % indica and puts its short flowering time of 42 to 45 days front and center. Greenfield Seeds uses the same name for a cross of Haze and Blueberry.
Genetics and Origin:
According to Eva Seeds, the Jamaican population was fairly uniform, and many plants finished flowering early. Plants that matured faster and yielded more were carried forward. The classification is still not clear-cut, however: other strain descriptions give the lineage as a Jamaican hybrid crossed with an unknown hybrid and call the plant predominantly indica. In 2 documented indoor grows, the growth habit also resembled an indica more closely.
Eva Seeds lists competition results for the strain from 2011 to 2018, including the win in the outdoor category of the Slovakia Cannabis Cup 2011, 1st place in the local outdoor category of the Canarias Cannabis Cup 2013 and 1st place in the flower category of the Copa Esmeralda 2018. At the 13th Copa Bella Flor Arseca 2011 it received the audience award for resin, and at the Copa Natura Verde 2013 and the Cannabis Canarias Cup 2014 it took 2nd place each for BHO. The Spanish edition of the magazine Soft Secrets named it “Girl of the Year” in 2016.
Eva Seeds crossed Jamaican Dream with Black Domina to make Black Dream and with Only CBD to make Jamaican Dream CBD.
Aroma and Flavor:
Eva Seeds describes the scent as sweet and subtle with a hint of almond and the taste as mildly sweet, like fruit. An older breeder description named fresh lime and pine as well as a coffee note. Other strain descriptions mention tropical and floral notes as well as wood. User reports mention strawberry, pineapple and citrus, once also rosemary with earth; one consumer compared the taste with brownies. Strain descriptions give caryophyllene as the leading terpene, followed by myrcene and limonene, while a data sheet from the seed trade names ocimene instead.
Effects:
The breeder describes the effect as sativa-leaning and very energetic. Consumers describe a stimulating, mood-lifting effect with euphoria, creativity and giggliness, some also focus or relaxation. Several reports mention a libido-enhancing component, one found the strain stimulating and calming at the same time, and a few report hunger. Side effects mentioned are dry mouth and dry eyes. After a high described as very intense, paranoia occurred in one case, another report mentions slight numbness, and other strain descriptions add nervousness.
THC and CBD Content:
The breeder's figures differ depending on the page. On the strain page, Eva Seeds gives 17 to 23 % THC, a blog post by the same breeder 17 to 21 %, and older breeder figures in the seed trade 17 to 19 %. Eva Seeds describes the CBD content as low.
Cultivation:
According to Eva Seeds, the strain is ready to harvest after 42 to 45 days of flowering, outdoors in the Northern Hemisphere between 23 and 30 September. Indoors it is said to reach 80 to 90 cm by the end of flowering, outdoors about 2 m depending on the sowing date. The breeder gives 360 to 630 g/m² indoors, depending on medium and pot size, and 500 to 1000 g per plant outdoors. Besides indoor and outdoor growing, it is also suited to the greenhouse according to the breeder.
Eva Seeds describes the growth form as an elongated pyramid with a continuous, very compact main stem; thick orange pistils are typical. The breeder lists FIM, topping, Sea of Green and SCROG as suitable methods and rates the nutrient demand as medium.
Community Experiences:
In 2 indoor grows with a completed data sheet, flowering took 47 and 60 days, a detailed report from 2014 arrived at 61 days, and another grower reported harvest readiness after 6 to 7 weeks. The two data-sheet grows describe vigorous, fast-growing plants in a Christmas-tree shape that grew from 18 to 54 cm and from 22 to 62 cm. The dried buds were hard and compact with little leaf content; no mold appeared, and the plants needed little fertilizer. In an exchange among several growers from 2014, the strain is regarded as easy to grow and bushy, it tolerated topping, and one grower noticed different phenotypes.
The report with 61 days of flowering is more critical. There the plant stretched more than other strains and was topped 2 times; a 3-gallon pot yielded 76 g of loose, low-resin buds. During flowering it smelled only faintly of citrus, and the effect is described as mild and stimulating.
Versions from Different Breeders:
The Greenfield Seeds version is a feminized cross of Haze and Blueberry, which the breeder classes as 90 % sativa and calls the little sister of Blue Dream. Greenfield Seeds gives 55 to 65 days of flowering, 550 g/m² indoors and 600 to 700 g per plant outdoors at a height of 180 cm with harvest in October, plus around 20 % THC. The description of scent, taste and effect of this version largely matches the older breeder description of the Eva Seeds strain.
