Green Dragon

Afghani and Turkish Gummy are regarded as the parents of Green Dragon, an indica from the California breeder Master Thai of South Lake Tahoe, also listed as Master Thai's Green Dragon, MTGD or MTGD-BX7. The sources do not agree on the lineage, and the Canadian Lucky 13 Seed Company lists a genetically different cross under the same name.

Genetics and Origin:

Master Thai describes the strain as an indica from Turkish and Afghan lines of the 1970s that the breeder obtained. The Turkish parent is also listed separately as Turkish Gummie; according to Master Thai, its seeds come from Turkish hashish of the 1970s and have been grown since 1977. For the Afghan side, several descriptions simply name Afghani or an Afghan landrace, while another breaks it down as a cross of a line called Victor Baarn and an Afghani-Malawi hybrid. Classification varies between pure indica and indica-dominant hybrid.

According to a company entry, Master Thai's Rare Organic Seeds has existed since 1982 and also lists strains such as Tahoe OG and Tahoe Gold; the same entry states that Skunk Magazine reviewed Green Dragon BX-7 in November 2013. Dragon's Queen (Green Dragon × Querkle) and Sour Dragon (Green Dragon × Sour Blue Thai) by Amadeus Genetics are recorded as descendants, as is Sweet & Sour Heaven by Master Thai.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Master Thai released this version exclusively as regular seeds and states roughly 50 days of flowering. The Lucky 13 Seed Company, a family business from British Columbia, crossed a mango phenotype of Green Crack with Herijuana for its Green Dragon. The breeder classes the result as 90 % indica and states 8 weeks of flowering, 9 weeks for higher potency; here too only regular seeds were offered. Green Goddess (with Korengal Kush, also Lucky 13) and Frost Dragon by Green Wolf Genetics (with Pure Michigan) came from this version. Aroma, effects and content figures in the remaining sections refer to the Master Thai line.

Aroma and Flavor:

Mint is the common denominator of the descriptions, supplemented by pine, sage and an earthy, pungent note; one source additionally names lavender. In flavor, sweetness, wood and skunk come in, and the comparison with mint candies recurs. Consumer reports describe a slightly menthol-like aftertaste, peppery tones on the exhale or a floral-sweet note. One report, by contrast, describes the smell as hashy and spicy with hints of roasted garlic.

Effects:

Strain descriptions sketch a two-stage course: first a euphoric head effect, then physical heaviness up to drowsiness. Consumer reports mention relaxation, euphoria, good mood and giggling. Others find the strain stimulating, contrary to its classification, and name energy, focus, creativity and talkativeness. Side effects named are dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness and restlessness, with paranoia, a scratchy throat and pronounced tiredness in individual reports.

THC and CBD Content:

Strain descriptions give THC levels between 16.5 and 22 %, without naming a lab. CBD is listed there at 0.64 to 2 %, CBG at 0.3 to 1 %. A single batch figure from retail sale in the US state of Oregon differs markedly: 23.73 % THC with 0.06 % CBD for pre-rolled joints, likewise without naming the lab. Such values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype. One strain description lists terpinolene as the predominant terpene, followed by myrcene and caryophyllene.

Cultivation:

Master Thai names the strain as suitable for indoor, outdoor and greenhouse and speaks of high yields without giving figures. The roughly 50 days of flowering contrast with 53 to 58 days or 7 to 8 weeks in other strain descriptions. The plant is described as short and stocky with strong side branches and is therefore named for Sea of Green. One source puts the height at 30 to 60 cm and the yield at around 300 g/m² indoors and around 400 g per plant outdoors. Semi-humid, Mediterranean conditions are given as the climate, and according to one cultivation description the outdoor harvest falls in early October. Difficulty ratings range from beginner-friendly to moderate.

Master Thai describes the flowers as very large, light green with blue to purple tints, red hairs and dense resin coverage.

Community Experiences:

According to growers, Master Thai's lines have become rare. One grower reports a pack of Green Dragon BX7 stored for years, from which 8 viable seeds emerged; all plants showed variegation to varying degrees. Accounts of flower structure diverge: one strain description speaks of dense, arrowhead-shaped flowers in neon green with orange hairs, one consumer report of large, airy flowers with yellow pistils. A heavy trichome coverage is described consistently.
