Super Lemon Haze

The name promises lemon, but the terpene analysis points first to a different molecule: in a flower sample tested by Confidence Analytics in 2019, terpinolene led with 0.84 %, ahead of ocimene at 0.52 % and myrcene at 0.29 %, with total terpenes at 2 %. Super Lemon Haze was created at Green House Seed Company in Amsterdam from Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze and took first place at the High Times Cannabis Cup in both 2008 and 2009.

Aroma and Flavor:

A sweet-sour lemon aroma with lime and a skunk undertone is described, with the flavor accompanied by candy, earthy, and spice notes. Grow reports attribute passion fruit and violet to individual plants, while other phenotypes barely smell of lemon and instead lean clearly toward haze. In late flowering the smell turns sharp and penetrating; growers compare it to lemon-scented cleaning product.

Lab Results:

A 2012 series of measurements on 10 samples analyzed by thin-layer chromatography found 15 to 26 % THC, 0.2 to 0.5 % CBD, 0.2 to 1.5 % CBG, and 0.2 to 1 % THCV; CBN was not detected in any sample. The single measurement by Confidence Analytics from 2019 was 19 % THC. Values vary by batch, cultivation, and phenotype. For medical flower of this strain, one producer declares 24 % THC and under 1 % CBD. Aggregated lab data also lists terpinolene ahead of caryophyllene and myrcene, even though the name suggests limonene.

Genetics and Origin:

Arjan Roskam and Franco Loja of Green House Seed Company are credited as originators, with the company stating 70 % sativa and 30 % indica for the feminized version. The lineage is disputed, however: Colin Gordon of Ethos Genetics describes the original cut as a cross between Jack Herer and a Lemon Skunk that was only ever distributed as a cutting, and states that Green House assigned propagation to third parties, which led to different cuts circulating under one name. Besides the two wins in 2008 and 2009, the awards include first place at the IC420 Growers Cup in 2010, second place at the High Times Cannabis Cup that same year, and first place at ExpoGrow in Irún in 2013. Documented descendants include Franco's Lemon Cheese and the CBD-rich variant Super Lemon Haze CBD, both from Green House, as well as Lemon OG Haze from Ethos Genetics.

Effects:

User reports describe a fast onset and a long duration. Activating, clear-headed, euphoric, and talkative states with a noticeable physical component are mentioned; at higher doses or with little prior use, consumers report a confusing, strongly cerebral impression. Dry mouth and dry eyes are mentioned as accompanying effects, less often dizziness and anxious reactions.

Cultivation:

Green House Seed Company states 10 weeks of flowering for the feminized original version, yields of up to 800 g/m² indoors and up to 1200 g per plant outdoors, with harvest in mid-October in the northern hemisphere. Other strain descriptions instead cite 9 to 10 weeks, up to 700 g/m², and a harvest window in late October. In grow reports, actual flowering time ranges from 55 to 80 days, with one report citing 89 days to full maturity.

After switching to 12/12, height doubles to triples, which is why topping, LST, and SCROG are consistently recommended, and the long flower clusters need netting or stakes. Variation from seed is considerable: bushy, fir-shaped, and lanky plants appear side by side; feminized seed tended toward hermaphroditism in several reports, and mold occurred occasionally. Resin coverage is described as very heavy, difficulty as moderate; Mediterranean conditions are considered favorable, and indoor, outdoor, and greenhouse cultivation are all documented.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Besides the photoperiod version, Green House offers a cross with ruderalis: 7 weeks of flowering within a 9-week total cycle, 80 to 100 cm in height, up to 500 g/m² indoors, 70 to 80 g per plant outdoors, and 21.10 % THC and 0.94 % CBD according to the breeder. Canuk Seeds states 70 days of flowering for its feminized version, 500 to 750 g/m² indoors, up to 1000 g per plant outdoors, and 22 % THC. Ethos Genetics sells regular seed under the same name from its own re-breeding with a different lineage, Jack Herer with Lemon Skunk, and states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 24 to 27 % THC, and 1 to 2 % CBD.
