Several plants circulate under the short name A1; the best documented is a cross by AK Bean Brains. The breeder combined the Blue Steel phenotype of Locomotion with Vintage Blueberry, a Blueberry line that, according to the breeder, is native to Alaska. According to the breeder, A1 first circulated there as well.
Genetics and Origin:
Locomotion traces back to Blue City Diesel by Jordan of the Islands and Timewreck by MzJill Genetics. A pedigree presentation traces the Blueberry side to Blueberry by DJ Short, whose ancestry includes Afghani and Purple Thai, among others. AK Bean Brains later used A1 as a parent itself and crossed it with Super Skunk to make A1/Super Skunk.
Aroma and Flavor:
AK Bean Brains describes an overripe blueberry tipping into the rotten, strong Tangie notes and a fuel tone. In a second description of the same line, blueberry and tangerine come first. The breeder puts the terpene content at a repeatedly measured 4 %, with a high myrcene share. A strain description with no breeder attribution, by contrast, gives blueberry, diesel and butter for A1 and lists caryophyllene ahead of myrcene and humulene as terpenes.
Effects:
According to the breeder, A1 is balanced, with euphoric and relaxing effects at once and no noticeable drop-off at the end. A strain description lists dry mouth and dizziness as side effects.
Community Experiences:
In the 8 user reports read, euphoria, creativity and good mood come up repeatedly, and some mention giggling or talkativeness. The reports disagree on whether the strain is stimulating or sedating: alongside accounts of energy and focus, one report describes a heavy, couch-locking effect.
One report reaches further back and recalls flowers that circulated in Brooklyn in 1999 and 2000 as A1 Black and tasted earthy, reminiscent of Haze. Whether they are connected to any of the versions described today cannot be established.
THC and CBD Content:
A strain description that also lists A1 under the name A1 Haze and as a sativa-leaning hybrid gives 21 % THC and 0 % CBD. It names no breeder, so the values cannot be assigned to any version.
Cultivation:
For the AK Bean Brains version, around 56 days of flowering are stated; the second description of the line says 8 to 9 weeks. It is listed for indoor cultivation. According to the breeder, high anthocyanin levels turn the plants magenta and purple. A1 exists only as regular seeds; according to these statements, a feminized version has never existed.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Sagarmatha Seeds lists its own strain under the name A-1 Haze, whose parents are not disclosed. According to the breeder, it flowers in 65 to 70 days, reaches an average height of 75 to 100 cm and yields 300 to 350 g/m² indoors. It is listed for indoor and outdoor, and the seeds are exclusively feminized. The breeder describes a stretched growth habit with 4 to 5 long flower clusters. Whether the alias A1 Haze from the strain description mentioned above refers to this strain is not documented.
