also known as Apple Fritters

UnknownTHC-dominant

Apple Fritter is a cross of Sour Apple and Animal Cookies, created in 2013 at Lumpy's Flowers in Northern California and smelling of apple pastry.

Research as of 10/08/2026

Apple Fritter, a cross of Sour Apple and Animal Cookies, was created in 2013 at Lumpy's Flowers in Northern California. At the High Times Cannabis Cup in Northern California, the strain took 2nd place in 2016. Lumpy's Flowers did not release the original as seeds; the seed versions come from other companies, and their figures differ markedly.

Genetics and Origin:

There are two accounts of how the strain came about. Several strain descriptions name Jason Dias, co-owner of Lumpy's Flowers, as the breeder and place the cross in California's wine country. A 2022 US article instead credits an independent grower nicknamed Lumpy from the Sacramento area. According to it, an Animal Cookies plant was the mother, and the pollen came from a female Sour Apple that had been converted to produce pollen.

Sour Apple traces back to Sour Diesel and Cinderella 99, Animal Cookies to Girl Scout Cookies and Fire OG. The strain is also listed as Apple Fritters and now serves as a parent itself, documented for example for Apple Tartz, Grapple Pie, Atomic Apple, Fritter Licker and Alien Apple Fritter.

Lab Results:

Published measurements come from the US market, specifically from package labels without a named lab, as recorded in test reports. Two flower batches from Illinois reached 25.1 % and 21.3 % THCA in 2023 and 2024, with 1.2 % and 0.4 % delta-9-THC; total terpenes were 2.3 % and 1.5 %. Values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype. In both batches, beta-caryophyllene, limonene, alpha-pinene and alpha-humulene were among the strongest terpenes. The 2023 batch, which according to the manufacturer comes from the genetics of Lumpy's Flowers, additionally contained a notable amount of linalool. A widely circulated strain description lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene ahead of limonene and pinene.

Aroma and Flavor:

Descriptions stay close to the name, an apple pastry: tart apple on a sweet, doughy base, plus butter and a cheesy undertone. Depending on the source, gas, pepper or cinnamon are added, and Barney's Farm also lists diesel for its own version. In test reports, one batch smelled of pear and dough and tasted of pear and cream with a peppery finish. Another recalled cedar wood, hops and pine, and in flavor it lacked sweetness almost entirely.

Effects:

User reports describe a euphoric onset with giggling and a tingling in the body that turns into marked relaxation; heightened desire is also mentioned. Some consumers highlight creativity and focus, others find the strain strongly tiring. Side effects mentioned are dizziness, dry mouth and headaches. One article points out that novice consumers may react with dizziness and nervousness.

Cultivation:

Strain descriptions give flowering times of 8 to 9 and 8 to 10 weeks respectively, with an outdoor harvest in early October. One description rates the difficulty as moderate, while Royal Queen Seeds, Zamnesia Seeds and Barney's Farm present their versions as easy to cultivate.

An indoor grow with the Zamnesia Seeds version paints a more demanding picture. After the switch to flowering, the plants grew from about 40 to around 100 cm, and stretching of 150 to 250 % was observed. The report describes the strain as temperamental and sensitive to high light intensity, recommends large pots and warns against overfeeding; the side branches stayed weak. After 55 to 65 days of flowering, the dried buds were hard and compact, and the ratio of flowers to leaves was unfavorable. In a customer review of the Royal Queen Seeds autoflower version, plants matured at different speeds under the same conditions.

Versions from Different Breeders:

The breeders give the following information on their versions:

  • Royal Queen Seeds: feminized, 60 % indica, up to 24 % THC, 55 to 65 days of flowering, around 450 g/m² indoors and 450 to 500 g per plant outdoors. The autoflower version, from Sour Apple Auto and Animal Cookies, is stated at 23 % THC and 11 to 12 weeks total cycle.
  • Barney's Farm: feminized, 50 % indica, 30 % THC, 65 to 70 days of flowering, 650 g/m² indoors and 1000 g per plant outdoors. The company describes green buds with purple tones and resistance to mold and powdery mildew.
  • Zamnesia Seeds: feminized, indica-dominant, 25 % THC, 9 to 10 weeks of flowering, up to 450 g/m² indoors and up to 500 g per plant outdoors, according to the company well suited to LST. There is also an autoflower version with 23 % THC and 10 to 11 weeks total cycle.
  • Grand Cru Genetics: Lumpy's Fritter, a feminized S1 line from Apple Fritter with about 60 days of flowering that, according to the description, needs supports.

Different genetics also circulates under the same name: for a product sold in Illinois, the manufacturer gave Triangle Kush and Animal Mints as parents.
