Grape Valley Kush, also known as Merlot OG, is a predominantly indica cross of Grape Kush and SFV OG by the Californian breeder Moxie 710.
The same cross by Moxie 710 is described under 2 names: as Grape Valley Kush and as Merlot OG. The Californian breeder, who also operates as Moxie Seeds, crossed Grape Kush with SFV OG; the available information leaves open which parent supplied the mother plant. The breeder's description emphasizes large, dense flowers with very dense trichome coverage, as well as the suitability of the material for extracts made with or without solvents.
The descriptions agree that the strain is predominantly indica. They differ on the exact ratio: 2 give 95 % indica and 5 % sativa, another 80 % to 20 %. Merlot OG does not denote a separate lineage; the strain information on Moxie 710 explicitly lists the name as an alias of the same line.
Moxie 710 describes a fuel-like smell with a strong pine character. Other strain descriptions put grape and berry first, along with citrus, pine and an earthy base note. For flavor, apple, lavender and a spicy Kush note are also mentioned.
A review of a single batch published in 2022 records a sweet note reminiscent of strawberry candy on opening, with potting soil, mushroom and tobacco leaf underneath, and a creamy sweetness when smoked. In individual consumer reports, grapefruit with minty and anise-like hints appears, and in another a taste reminiscent of cough syrup.
Strain descriptions list myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by β-caryophyllene and limonene. A published analysis that does not name the lab confirms myrcene in first place at 1.425 mg/g, but ranks limonene at 0.235 mg/g ahead of β-caryophyllene at 0.142 mg/g.
Consumers consistently describe a distinctly relaxing effect that can turn into drowsiness, accompanied by euphoria and an elevated mood. Talkativeness, giddiness, appetite and increased concentration are also mentioned.
Reports diverge on the course. Some describe the onset as stimulating and creative before physical heaviness sets in, up to couchlock; others find the strain strongly sedating from the start. Side effects named are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness, and one detailed review adds anxiety and noticeable physical exhaustion after the peak.
Strain descriptions give THC values between 15 and 26 %, one of them only 15 to 18 %. Measured batches come in higher. Level One Labs determined 31.62 % THCA for one batch in 2022, corresponding to 28.58 % total THC; CBD and CBG were each 0.00 %. For 2 further batches, 26.3 % and 29.05 % THC were published without naming the lab. Measured values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype.
The information on the Moxie 710 version names only feminized seed, a flowering time of 55 to 65 days and a yield of about 450 g/m². According to it, the strain can be cultivated indoors and outdoors. The breeder also highlights the flower structure, which trims well.
Another strain description places the outdoor harvest from late September to mid-October, rates cultivation as easy and describes a plant that does not grow tall, prefers a warm climate and develops strong coloration in cooler temperatures. Reviews of individual batches show compact, cone-shaped flowers with purple accents on a green base.
Besides the Moxie 710 line, The Seed Fair has a Grape Valley Kush under its own label with a different parentage: OG Kush crossed with Grapefruit. For this feminized, photoperiod version, the vendor gives 95 % indica, 20 % THC, 0 % CBD, 7 to 9 weeks of flowering, 450 g/m² indoors and up to 500 g per plant outdoors. Genetically, it is therefore a different strain.
