Josh D OG

Lemon, pine resin and fuel on one side, cheese with a blue-mold note and a hint of berries on the other: the aroma descriptions of Josh D OG move between these two poles. The strain is a triple cross of SFV OG, Triangle Kush and Hell's Angels OG, released as a seed line by Karma Genetics together with its namesake Josh D.

Aroma and Flavor:

Growers name diesel, earth and lemon in the flavor. User reports describe a strong OG opening with pine and lemon that ends in a finish of gasoline, along with a heavy gas smell; one report pairs a sharp OG scent with a cheesy taste and a slight berry note. Other strain descriptions place the emphasis differently: one lists tea, wood and blue cheese, another berries, cheese, earth and a pungent smell, with citrus and a sweet edge in the flavor, plus berries and wood. Depending on the batch, pepper or sweeter tones are also said to appear.

The dominant terpenes are given as myrcene, limonene and caryophyllene. Summarized lab evaluations without a stated sample count rank limonene narrowly ahead of myrcene, with caryophyllene in third place.

Effects:

The reports describe a euphoric, cheerful onset followed by relaxation; at a higher dose, according to one description, the effect fades out more sluggish and sleepy. Hunger and sleepiness appear in several reports. Alongside these are accounts in which creativity, focus, drive or silliness come to the fore. Growers describe the effect as very strong and long-lasting.

Dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness are named as side effects. One report describes a couch-lock effect, another a rapid onset with noticeably impaired thinking.

Genetics and Origin:

The name refers to Josh Del Rosso, founder of Josh D Farms. According to the strain information, the line's story begins in Orlando, Florida, where Josh D and Matt “Bubba” Berger started working on the genetics; the sources give the year as 1991 in some cases and 1992 in others. In 1996 Berger brought the Kush genetics to Los Angeles. There the two ran a grow facility in Silver Lake, passed on cuttings and called their line OG Kush to mark it as the original.

Two descriptions classify Josh D OG as predominantly indica, one of them with 70 % indica and 30 % sativa. Elsewhere the strain is listed as an indica or as a hybrid without a stated ratio. Occasionally The White appears as an additional parent in the pedigree. The names JD OG and Josh D OG Kush are also in use.

As a parent, Josh D OG is part of Animal Style, which derives from a cross of '09 Animal Cookies with Josh D OG. CalCo Genetics crossed the Karma Genetics version with Blueberry Syrup.

THC and CBD Content:

One strain description gives 24 % THC and 1 % CBG. A first-hand report cites a measured value of 22.43 % THC and 0.06 % CBD with 26.11 % total cannabinoids, without naming the lab.

Cultivation:

For the Karma Genetics version, a flowering time of about 67 days is stated, and it can be grown indoors and outdoors. One documented indoor run came to 65 days; the plants grew there from around 30 cm at the start of flowering to about 170 cm, needed support during flowering and tolerated topping of the main shoot well. The same report describes rock-hard, very compact buds, no susceptibility to mold and suitability for beginners as well. According to the grow reports, the side shoots form numerous strong buds, and the plants shrugged off temperature fluctuations and deviations in feeding.

Yield reports diverge: once it is described as high, across the reports as a whole as slightly below average. Another grower discarded all 12 plants after 25 days because they stayed weak and formed hardly any pistils.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Besides Karma Genetics, Josh D himself is listed as breeder of a version with an identical pedigree. For it, 63 to 77 days of flowering are stated, along with a note that it never existed as feminized seed. For the Karma Genetics version, by contrast, feminized seeds are documented. Under the Growers Lab label, a seed retailer markets a feminized version without information on lineage; 60 to 70 days of flowering, 20 % THC and yields of up to 500 g/m² indoors and up to 500 g per plant outdoors are given.
