Gruntz
Gruntz circulates under two lineages: Gelato × Zkittlez with no known breeder, and Gushers × Runtz, which Nasha Genetics and other breeders list as their own versions.
Two lineages circulate under the name Gruntz. One describes a cross of Gelato and Zkittlez whose original breeder is unknown; alongside it, several seed companies sell their own versions made from Gushers and Runtz. The lines are not far apart, since according to the pedigree details for the Nasha Genetics version, Runtz and Gushers each trace back to Gelato.
Genetics and Origin:
The Gelato-Zkittlez version is listed as a hybrid in strain descriptions, one of which gives 70 % Indica and 30 % Sativa. Another description names Gelato and Runtz as the parents. For the Gushers-Runtz line, Nasha Genetics is the best-documented breeder. Cabinet of Curiosities Seeds writes the name GRuntz and, for its version, crossed a Gushers cutting from Purple City Genetics with a reversed Runtz.
Several crosses build on the Nasha Genetics version, including Black Beauty by 7 East Genetics, Gruntz Auto by Atlas Seed and Gruntz x Jealousy by Underworld Genetix.
Versions from Different Breeders:
All versions with breeder details are offered as feminized seeds. For flowering time, Nasha Genetics gives around 68 days and Cabinet of Curiosities Seeds around 63 days. ILGM, which traces its Gruntz back to Zkittlez and Gelato, states 8 to 9 weeks, and Blimburn Seeds gives 9 to 10 weeks for its Gushers-Runtz cross. Elite Clone Seed Company pollinated a Gruntz mother plant with itself and offers the offspring as S1; 8 to 10 weeks are stated for it.
Yield figures come from Blimburn Seeds, with 500 to 600 g/m² indoors and 500 to 600 g per plant outdoors, and from ILGM, with 500 to 550 g/m² indoors. Without training, the Nasha Genetics version grows to about 150 cm according to the breeder; with training it can be kept at around 100 cm. Blimburn Seeds likewise gives about 1.5 m and names an October harvest outdoors in warm regions. Assessments of difficulty diverge: ILGM considers its version suitable for beginners, Blimburn Seeds rates it as medium, and Elite Clone Seed Company expects some prior growing practice.
Cultivation:
Descriptions from various sources depict dense, resinous flowers with heavy trichome coverage. One article gives a medium height with strong side shoots. For the Cabinet of Curiosities Seeds version, the breeder describes dark olive-green to purple leaves and amber to peach-coloured pistils; according to Blimburn Seeds, cool nights can bring out colour tones. The same breeder calls its plants nutrient-hungry and states that LST or light topping during the growth phase opens up the canopy.
Aroma and Flavor:
Sweet fruit and candy form the common denominator: berries, tropical fruit, cotton candy and cream are named. Behind these, depending on the source, come earthy and skunky tones, a chemical note with grapefruit, or a slight hint of gasoline. Elite Clone Seed Company additionally describes its S1 as cheesy, and Cabinet of Curiosities Seeds describes its own version as earthy and woody with sweet fruit.
Consumers report a tropical taste with an earthy undertone, a sour citrus freshness, lime or grape. One noticed a soapy aftertaste.
Effects:
At the centre of the user reports is a stimulating effect with euphoria, elevated mood, creativity, focus and talkativeness, accompanied by tingling. Several consumers describe it as long-lasting, some as having a delayed onset. Others find the strain relaxing, in part only at a higher dose. One article describes a rapid lift that turns into relaxation, and one strain description a heavy physical relaxation. A single report speaks of a highly energizing effect, another of a negative episode with no further detail.
Dry eyes and dry mouth are named as side effects, and ILGM also lists dizziness. One consumer reports initial nervousness after a break from use, which later subsided, another severe coughing.
THC and CBD Content:
For their versions, the breeders give 20 to 30 % THC: Nasha Genetics around 20 %, ILGM 20 to 22 %, Blimburn Seeds 25 to 27 % and Elite Clone Seed Company 22 to 30 % for the S1. A strain description of the Gelato-Zkittlez version, by contrast, gives 15 % THC and 0 % CBD.
Lab Results:
A flower supplier published the analysis of a single batch without naming the laboratory. Measured were 16.5 % THCA, 0.287 % delta-9-THC and a total terpene content of 2.61 %. Caryophyllene ranked ahead of linalool and limonene; strain descriptions likewise list the same three terpenes as dominant, while ILGM gives caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene for its version.
