Zerbert

In April 2021, the Emerald Cup, a cannabis competition held in Northern California, announced its results: in the Solid Hydrocarbon Extracts category, a concentrate made from Zerbert placed 5th. The following year, a pre-roll of this strain took 3rd place among non-infused pre-rolls for the recreational market at the Cannabis Cup Michigan: People's Choice Edition 2022. These awards recognized individual producers' products, not the genetics itself. Its origin is only partly established. Zkittlez is named as one parent in every source reviewed, while accounts of the second parent and the breeder diverge.

Genetics and Origin:

Several strain descriptions and a clone vendor attribute Zerbert to the Backpack Boyz brand. A review from August 2021 instead names Cali Kosher as the breeder. Another strain description does not assign the strain to any named breeder but notes that Backpack Boyz released it.

There is likewise no agreement on the lineage. Some sources name Sunset Sherbert as the partner to Zkittlez, others Blue Sherbert. One detailed lineage replaces Zkittlez with the line The Original Z, which it traces back to Grape Ape and Grapefruit, and derives Sunset Sherbert from Girl Scout Cookies and Pink Panties. One strain description classifies Zerbert as slightly indica-dominant at 60 % indica, while Rocket Seeds and Sonoma Seeds each give 50 % indica and 50 % sativa.

As a parent, Zerbert appears in more recent crosses, including Zotti, Milk Tea, Hippy Tearz, Black Cherry Buffs, and Airheadz 3.0.

Aroma and Flavor:

Descriptions center on berries and sweets. Reports mention an earthy, fruity scent with sweet berries and a sweet-and-sour taste of blueberry candy, along with a sharp citrus note and fresh earth. The 2021 review records a sweet, slightly musky smell of blueberry lemonade that turns more floral and sour after grinding, with hints of paint thinner and gasoline. On inhale it notes blueberry candy, honey, hash, and pine, with a tart, grapefruit-like sourness on the finish alongside earthy and floral notes. User reports add papaya, diesel, and a lingering fuel aftertaste.

Strain descriptions, not lab analyses, list caryophyllene and limonene as the leading terpenes; pinene, humulene, and linalool also appear.

Effects:

Users first report an uplifted, euphoric head effect that they associate with creativity and a good mood. This is followed by physical relaxation with light tingling and noticeable hunger. Whether the strain tends to be energizing or sedating differs among users: some describe it as activating and focus-enhancing, others as sleep-inducing. The 2021 review describes an introspective, slightly hazy state, a loose feeling in the body, warmth in the face, and heavy eyelids.

Reported side effects include dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness, nervousness, and paranoid thoughts.

THC Content:

Strain descriptions put Zerbert's THC content at 14 to 19 %.

Cultivation:

For the Backpack Boyz line's clone, a clone vendor states a flowering time of 8.5 to 9 weeks with a medium vegetative period and medium stretch. One strain description rates cultivation as moderately difficult and considers the strain suitable indoors and outdoors, noting that humidity and air circulation require attention.

The flowers reviewed in 2021 were small, stout, and densely built. Their deep purple stood out against forest-green sugar leaves and orange pistils, with abundant trichome coverage.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Crop King Seeds, Rocket Seeds, and Sonoma Seeds sell feminized seeds under the name Zerbert with the lineage Blue Sherbert x Zkittlez. Their figures agree: 7 to 9 weeks of flowering, 350 to 450 g/m² indoors and 500 to 700 g per plant outdoors, an outdoor harvest from mid to late September, 14 to 19 % THC, and a mild, temperate climate. Crop King Seeds and Rocket Seeds give a height of 80 to 120 cm indoors and 150 to 200 cm outdoors.

Genetically distinct is the Zerbert from Eleven Thirty Genetics, a cross of Gelato #41, Grape Kush, and a selected Zkittlez clone. The breeder puts the indica share at 80 %, states a flowering time of 8 to 11 weeks, and describes the strain as stable to grow both indoors and outdoors. One seed vendor lists this version as an autoflower with a ruderalis component.

Community Experiences:

User reports highlight the flavor and describe a progression from stimulating to relaxing. One report criticizes very dry flowers that burned down quickly.
