Growers who raise K1 indoors from cuttings should, on the recommendation of French Touch Seeds, place the plants under 12/12 hours of light immediately, without a vegetative phase, so that the stretch stays manageable. The breeder gives a height of 3 m and a flowering time of 110 to 130 days, and explicitly directs the strain at experienced growers with plenty of patience. The abbreviation stands for a pure sativa landrace from the island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean, which is also listed under the name Kalité Tizane.
Cultivation:
According to French Touch Seeds, the strain reaches its full potential outdoors under tropical conditions. North of the equator, the outdoor harvest falls in late November according to the breeder. For container growing, French Touch Seeds specifies a minimum volume of 35 liters, and it gives more than 1000 g of dried flowers per plant outdoors and 650 g/m² indoors. Another strain description puts the indoor yield considerably lower, gives a somewhat earlier lower limit for the flowering time and points to the plants' need for warmth.
An indoor grow with 2 plants documented in 2020 shows what the long flowering period means in practice. The first plant was ripe in the 14th week of flowering, the second only in the 16th week. During flowering the light phase was extended gradually from 12 to 14 hours. Both plants stretched strongly and had to be trained intensively to fit into the space. Deficiency symptoms at the start were followed by a doubling of the planned nutrient concentration; after that, feeding followed the appearance of the leaves rather than a fixed schedule. The harvest came to around 52 and 68 g dry weight, and the smell only developed clearly during curing.
Genetics and Origin:
According to French Touch Seeds, the line was stabilized by the Bourbon Breeders on La Réunion over at least a decade, and the share of hermaphroditic plants has fallen to below 5 %. French Touch Seeds describes itself as a French seed bank that has existed since 2010, is based in Spain and, by its own account, offers rare landraces of the island. The breeder also lists K1 as Kalité 1 taffe. Another strain description calls the strain a Zamal line and gives the alias 1 Puff, which refers to the high cannabinoid content. In pedigree overviews, K1 appears as a descendant of the Réunion sativa offered by Original Strains. Seeds exist only in regular form; K1 was never available feminized.
THC and CBD Content:
French Touch Seeds states 20 to 30 % THC and less than 1 % CBD. Other strain descriptions differ: one sets the THC range lower, another gives a higher CBD content.
Aroma and Flavor:
Two strain descriptions portray a spicy smell with notes of ammonia, and one of them adds a sweet taste.
Effects:
In the documented grow, the effect is described as strong and stimulating, with a creative touch. One strain description speaks of a stimulating, euphoric effect with a sociable note.
Versions from Different Breeders:
A genetically different strain also runs under the name K1: a sativa-dominant cross of Durban Poison and LA Kush, for which no breeder is named. Strain descriptions give 10 to 15 % THC for it. A concentrate called K1 Shatter is associated with this line; in 2014 it took 3rd place in the People's Choice ranking of the Hash category at the Cannabis Cup in Denver. Described aromas are pine, ammonia and chemical notes, along with earthy and herbal tones of sage and wood.
Several user reports on this cross describe a stimulating, euphoric effect with clear focus and long duration. One report, by contrast, describes tiredness in the morning, while energy and a pronounced body feeling dominated during physical activity. Taste impressions range from pine to a chemical note. Dry mouth, dry eyes and paranoia are named as unwanted effects.
To be distinguished from this is K1 OG, also called Killer One, which Sticky Status bred from Chemdawg and Hindu Kush.
