Mango Skunk

Amsterdam breeder Nirvana Seeds took the skunk share of Mango Skunk from its own range. The father of the cross is Venus Flytrap, a predominantly sativa-leaning skunk variety from the house, which according to its pedigree traces back to Skunk Special and a cross with Skunk #1. A cutting of Mango from KC Brains Holland served as the mother. The offspring is classed as predominantly indica, and the commonly cited figure is 60 % indica to 40 % sativa.

Genetics and Origin:

The paternal line is not reported consistently. In the strain's genealogy, Venus Flytrap stands for Skunk Special × (Jack Horror × Skunk #1), while product descriptions of Nirvana's seed abbreviate the pedigree to Mango × (Skunk Special × Jock Horror). A single strain description gives Jack Herer × Skunk #1 as a completely different ancestry, which cannot be confirmed anywhere else. The classification also differs: one product description lists the strain as a balanced hybrid.

Aroma and Flavor:

Nirvana describes the scent as restrained and creamy, with a slightly fruity note on an earthy base. The flavor is said to be dominated by mango, accompanied by a cinnamon-like haze note. Other strain descriptions add citrus, earth, flowers, sourness and spice, and another mentions diesel and lists caryophyllene, limonene and humulene as the dominant terpenes.

Grow reports mention a fruity, skunky smell, with the mango coming through rather subtly in the flavor. Consumers describe the flavor as earthy, while impressions of the smell range from strong to mild.

Effects:

Despite the indica lean, the breeder describes an uplifting, activating effect of long duration, combined with a noticeable body feel. User reports paint a mixed picture. Some consumers experienced euphoria, giddiness and creative thoughts with a pronounced body effect, others mainly relaxation up to drowsiness. One report describes the strain as energizing and relaxing at once. Coughing, dry mouth, dry eyes and paranoia are named as accompanying effects.

THC and CBD Content:

According to Nirvana, Mango Skunk reaches 15 to 19 % THC. Other strain descriptions give the same range and 18 % THC with 0 % CBD, respectively. For the CBD content of the breeder version, the statements contradict each other: it is rated medium in one place and low in another.

Cultivation:

Nirvana gives the flowering time as 9 to 11 weeks and the yield as 450 to 550 g/m² in a Sea of Green setup. The plant stays medium-sized and, according to the breeder, suits indoor and outdoor cultivation. One product description, by contrast, lists it as an indoor variety only. Difficulty ratings range from easy to medium.

Grown from seed, the strain splits into 3 phenotypes according to the breeder's description. One is sativa-leaning, tall and heavily branched. The other two are indica-dominant, stay small to medium-sized and form similar flowers but branch differently. The foliage is light to medium green, and the fan leaves have the broad indica shape.

Community Experiences:

Grow reports on Nirvana's seed vary. Praised are fast germination, quick growth in the vegetative phase and handling that beginners can manage as well. Against this stand a poor germination rate in one case and a grow in which the plants turned out sativa-heavy and lanky; the grower therefore considered the strain better suited to indoor cultivation. Another report notes short internodes on the young seedling, and yet another criticizes that the phenotypes were not very uniform.
