The name Money Maker belongs to a feminized Kush hybrid from Strain Hunters Seed Bank, which, according to one strain description, is part of the Amsterdam-based Green House Seed Company. The seed bank was launched in 2013 and is linked to the Strain Hunters expeditions of Arjan, Franco and Simon. The breeder, however, does not present Money Maker as a new creation. It describes the plant as very old, a true Master Kush that won a High Times Cannabis Cup in the early 1990s, here in feminized form.
Genetics and Origin:
The Green House strain page lists the lineage as Original Master Kush × Hindu Kush × Skunk. Other descriptions give Master Kush × (Hindu Kush × Skunk) or name Skunk #1 as the third line. The breeder puts the indica share at 70 % and the sativa share at 30 %.
The same page reports 1st place at the 1994 High Times Cannabis Cup in the Hydro category, without clarifying whether Money Maker itself or the Master Kush parent is meant. In the Strain Hunters description, the cup win belongs to Master Kush.
Cultivation:
Strain Hunters describes the plant as short and bushy, fast-growing and with very short internodes; Green House gives spacings of 5 to 7 cm. For indoor cultivation the breeder states 8 weeks of flowering, outdoors 8 to 9 weeks, with harvest in the Northern Hemisphere from late September to early October. Indoors, 750 to 800 g/m² are said to be possible, and up to 1 g per watt under a 1000 W sodium vapor lamp. For outdoor growing the same page gives up to 1 kg per plant, elsewhere 1000 to 1200 g, at a height of 140 to 170 cm. The strain is said to tolerate high nutrient levels with an EC of 1.8 to 2, and Green House rates the difficulty as beginner level.
Community Experiences:
Two documented indoor grows differ clearly from the breeder's figure on flowering time. A grower harvested in a Sea of Green after 73 days; the plants grew from about 30 cm at the start of flowering to around 100 cm, and one phenotype reached about 0.8 g per watt. Another grower calculated with 10 to 11 weeks. In the first grow, at least 3 phenotypes appeared: a slow type reminiscent of Hindu Kush that turned purple, a faster hybrid type with higher yield, and a Skunk type. Topping helped there to limit the height of individual phenotypes. A further grower distinguished 4 phenotypes whose effects were the same.
Reports describe the dried flowers as hard and compact, with a very good flower-to-leaf ratio. Because the side shoots can give way under the weight, a grower advises nets or stakes. Reports differ on mold: two growers found no susceptibility, while a third reported heavy infestation on the large flowers and late hermaphroditism. The verdict on stability is similarly mixed. One called the strain forgiving and not very nutrient-hungry, another got only 2 of 5 seeds to germinate and considered the line unstable. Two hobby gardeners wrote that their Money Maker had clearly yielded more than the other plants in the same grow.
Aroma and Flavor:
Green House describes the smell of the unburned flowers as berries, spices, Kush notes and a roasted tone, and the smoke as nutty, vegetal, spicy and fruity. Other strain descriptions add pine, earth and skunk. Consumers mention nutty notes ranging to almond and pistachio, as well as berries, grape and pine, and occasionally citrus and banana. The breeder lists myrcene, β-caryophyllene and α-humulene as the dominant terpenes; another description names myrcene, caryophyllene and pinene.
Effects:
The breeder speaks of a strong, body-focused effect that is especially noticeable in the legs, pushes one onto the couch and feels meditative. The user reports point in the same direction: relaxation, tiredness, euphoria and pronounced hunger are named, and one report also mentions a slow onset. One consumer, by contrast, found the strain stimulating, another found it mild. Dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness appear as side effects.
THC and CBD Content:
Green House states 20.42 % THC, 0.86 % CBD and 0.20 % CBN, without naming a lab or measurement date. Another strain description lists only 10 % THC.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Under the nearly identical name Moneymaker, Exotic Genetix markets a genetically different strain, crossed from its in-house lines Jigglers and Bakers Dozen. For this feminized version, Exotic Genetix gives 56 to 63 days of flowering and a ratio of 70 % indica to 30 % sativa.
