Spread only as a cutting. According to a press report, Matt “Bubba” Berger brought cuttings from Florida to Josh Del Rosso (Josh D) in Los Angeles in 1996; 1 of 5 survived. The original breeder is not clearly documented; Josh D is regarded as the one who received and distributed the cutting.
OG Kush
also known as Premium OG Kush
OG Kush is a cutting from Florida that reached Los Angeles in 1996. Its lineage is disputed, with Chemdawg × Hindu Kush named most often.
The certificate of analysis for a flower sample of OG Kush lists 20.32 % THCA and no detectable CBD (SC Labs, 2026). From this the lab calculates 18.15 % total THC; this is a single measurement, and such values vary with batch, cultivation and phenotype. The name stands for a cutting that emerged in Florida in the early 1990s, reached Los Angeles in 1996 and has a lineage that remains disputed to this day.
Lab Results:
The same sample contained 3.356 % terpenes. Myrcene (0.944 %) and limonene (0.923 %) are almost level, followed by caryophyllene (0.424 %) and linalool (0.341 %).
An analysis of lab tests on products of this name gives averages of 19.11 % THC, 0.10 % CBD and 0.58 % CBG. Figures that breeders cite for their seed lines are higher: Sensi Seeds reports 26.68 % THC in flowers from its own grow of the White Label version, without naming the lab, and Dinafem reports 24 % THC and 0.23 % CBD.
Genetics and Origin:
Several accounts agree on the route to California: in 1996, Matt “Bubba” Berger brought cuttings from Florida to Josh Del Rosso, known as Josh D, in Los Angeles. According to a press report updated in 2024, only 1 of 5 plants survived the transport; the strain, which has been passed on exclusively as a cutting, traces back to that plant.
Several versions of the parentage circulate. Most often named is Chemdawg × Hindu Kush, sometimes with Lemon Thai as a further component. A version attributed to Josh D speaks of Hindu Kush seeds bought from Neville in Amsterdam in 1989 and crossed in 1991 in southern Florida with a plant from the Emerald Triangle. The abbreviation is also unresolved, interpreted as “Ocean Grown” or “Original Gangster”.
Tahoe, SFV, Ghost and Larry are listed as separate cuts; Bubba Kush (OG Kush × Bubba), Headband (Sour Diesel × OG Kush), GSC and Bruce Banner are documented as offspring. At the 2016 NorCal Medical Cannabis Cup by High Times, an entry named The OG Kush Story won the Indica Flowers category; at the 2018 Emerald Cup, OG Kush Story by Josh D took 2nd place in the Licensed Mixed Light class.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Seeds under this name come from breeders with their own lines, all feminized and with partly differing pedigrees.
- Royal Queen Seeds: Chemdawg × (Lemon Thai × Pakistani Kush), 60 % indica, up to 19 % THC, 50 to 60 days of flowering, 425 to 475 g/m² indoors, 500 to 550 g per plant and 180 to 220 cm in height outdoors.
- Dinafem: Lemon Thai × Chemdawg, 75 % indica, 16 % THC as catalog value, 55 days of flowering, 550 g/m² indoors, 1100 g per plant and up to 3 m in height outdoors.
- White Label (Sensi Seeds): 75 % indica, 19 to 25 % THC, 55 days, 550 g/m², outdoors up to 1100 g per plant, height 90 to 160 cm.
- Further feminized lines according to strain descriptions: Barneys Farm (55 to 65 days), Bulk Seed Bank (8 weeks), Humboldt Seed Company (60 days).
Cultivation:
General strain descriptions give 7 to 9 weeks of flowering and an outdoor harvest in early October. Difficulty is rated from moderate to difficult, with susceptibility to powdery mildew and pests given as the reason; a warm, dry climate is recommended.
Aroma and Flavor:
The aroma is described as a mix of lemon, pine and fuel, along with skunk, earth and spice. Consumers name the same notes, often earthy and woody with diesel on the finish.
Effects:
Reported effects are relaxation, euphoria, elevated mood, hunger and drowsiness. Accounts of its character differ: some describe a heavy body effect up to couch-lock, others creativity, focus and talkativeness without tiredness. Side effects mentioned include dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness and headaches, and individual reports also cite anxiety and paranoia.
Community Experiences:
The evaluation covered 68 reports; the consumer accounts date from 2023 to 2026. Grow reports exist only for seed lines and partly contradict the reputation for sensitivity: growers of the Bulk Seed Bank and Dinafem lines report no mold; for Bulk Seed Bank a low fertilizer demand is mentioned, for Dinafem sensitivity to overfeeding.
Stretch varies greatly: one Bulk Seed Bank plant grew from 25 to 120 cm over 62 days of flowering, another from 20 to 60 cm in 77 days. Sensi Seeds documents for White Label 70 days of flowering, 42 to 108 cm, tight internodes, a support stake and a dry yield of 130 g. The flowers are considered hard and compact; a grower of the Royal Queen Seeds line, however, reports airy buds and hermaphrodite formation in week 8.

Royal Queen Seeds describes only a slight stretch for its own line.

OG Kush × Haze 2.0 Autoflowering. The strain description gives “70–80 days” indoors, 400 g/m² indoors, 50–170 g per plant outdoors and 80–180 cm height; whether the days refer to the total duration from germination is not clear from the extraction, so no duration is entered.

Consumer reports (2023 to 2026) consistently name relaxation, euphoria, elevated mood, hunger and drowsiness, as well as an earthy, woody aroma with pine, lemon and diesel. Grow reports on seed lines describe hard, compact flowers with a very good flower-to-leaf ratio, strong effects and no mold problems.
Some consumers describe a heavy, sedating body effect, others a functional, activating effect without tiredness; some attribute this to different batches and cultivation methods, and some long-time consumers consider current batches weaker than earlier ones. Individual reports mention anxiety and paranoia. Stretch varies greatly across the grows (from 20 to 60 cm in one case, from 40 to 160 cm in another); one report mentions 2 phenotypes with 56 to 60 and around 70 days of flowering, and one report on the Royal Queen Seeds line mentions airy buds and hermaphrodite formation in week 8. Fertilizer demand is described as low for Bulk Seed Bank, while overfeeding or nutrient burn is reported for Dinafem and in a tent grow.
