Gas Leak

Easier to grow and to propagate from cuttings than the Chem line of its mother: that is how South Fork Seed Collective describes its cross Gas Leak. The breeder paired Chem '91 with a father of its own, a Chemdawg 4 backcrossed three times and listed at South Fork as Chemdawg bc3. According to variety descriptions, the collective is based in Trinity County, California. Two other strains with entirely different lineages circulate under the same name, however.

Genetics and Origin:

Chem '91, also listed as Skunk VA in some pedigrees, descends from Chemdawg. South Fork used the father for stabilization and sees the Chem side clearly coming through in the result. The breeder classifies the strain as predominantly indica, and one variety description puts the indica share at 80 %. Two other descriptions list Chem 99 rather than Chem 91 as the mother, which contradicts the breeder's information.

A pedigree overview also names Gas Leak OG as a precursor to the South Fork strain: a plant with no known breeder, likewise from Chem 91 and Chemdawg BX3, with a flowering time of around 60 days. Kona Kush, from Mana House Hawaii, is documented as a descendant. The Hawaiian breeder combined Boss OG × Gas Leak with Sour Diesel × Pink 2.0 for it and describes a distinctly gassy nose.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Midnight Roots Genetics crossed the Tahoe cut for its Gas Leak Tahoe OG with Fire 18. LIT Farms offers a feminized Gas Leak from Motorbreath #15 and LIT OG; a seed seller lists 25 to 30 % THC for this version. According to the available information, South Fork and Midnight Roots Genetics have never offered feminized seeds.

Aroma and Flavor:

South Fork describes a gasoline smell so intense that it is almost overwhelming, along with a distinct fuel flavor. Other variety descriptions add diesel and chemical and skunky notes, plus herbal and spicy tones; one also mentions a hint of apricot. The flavor is said to come through sharper on the exhale. For a medical batch produced in Portugal, woody, earthy and spicy notes with hints of clove and hops are given.

The leading terpenes are considered to be myrcene, caryophyllene and humulene. One variety description ranks them in this order, while the medical batch lists humulene first. The picture is less consistent in experience reports: alongside strong, old-school Chem aromas stands the observation of a rather mild weed smell, and one report found the flavor unpleasant.

THC and CBD Content:

Variety descriptions give Gas Leak THC values between 15 and 23 %, with one listing 20 % THC and 1 % CBG. A batch sold in Germany as medical flower, sourced from Portugal, is declared at 27 % THC and 1 % CBD. The product information does not state which line it comes from.

Effects:

Descriptions and user reports describe an onset in the head followed by body relaxation; one report describes the onset as slow. Uplifted and euphoric mood, creativity, giggliness, increased arousal and hunger are mentioned. Experiences differ on intensity. Some users experienced a strongly sedating effect with sleepiness and a couch-lock feeling, others a relaxed mood without tiredness.

Dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness and fatigue appear as unwanted side effects. One report mentions an irritated throat after vaporizing.

Cultivation:

South Fork states an indoor flowering time of 63 to 70 days and describes Gas Leak as a late-flowering strain. Outdoors, harvest falls between October 14 and 31 according to the breeder. In one experience report, the green buds showed purple spots.
