also known as Garlic Cookies, GMO Garlic Cookies, GMO, Chem Cookies
GMO Cookies, also called Garlic Cookies, is a cross of Chemdawg D and GSC from Mamiko Seeds, with an aroma marked by garlic and diesel.
Reports agree on the smell of GMO Cookies, but not on the taste. Consumers describe garlic, often together with onion, mushroom and a diesel note, and in isolated cases a citrus-like note. Some taste the garlic unchanged and intense when smoking. Other descriptions record a sweeter, earthy taste with coffee-like tones, which ties in more with the Cookies side of the lineage. Behind the name stands a cross of Chemdawg D and a clone of GSC, formerly Girl Scout Cookies, which Mamiko Seeds released as seed.
The seeds circulated as Chem Cookies or simply as Chem D x GSC. From them the breeder Skunkmasterflex selected the phenotype that became known as GMO and has since been passed on as a clone. What the abbreviation stands for has not been settled. A common reading is Garlic, Mushroom, Onion. According to another account, Skunkmasterflex alluded to reports about genetically modified ingredients in a well-known cookie brand. Because dispensaries did not want to carry the GMO label, the second name Garlic Cookies spread.
At the Emerald Cup 2019, entries under the names GMO and GMO Cookie placed 4th in the Mixed Light category and 7th in Sungrown. As a parent, the strain is part of newer crosses such as Agent Garlic, Chem Crackerz and Super Lemon Haze x GMO.
The core of the reports is a strong body effect with relaxation and euphoria, which at higher doses can turn into drowsiness and pronounced sluggishness. Other consumers mainly describe elevated mood and call themselves creative, focused or talkative; tingling and giddiness are mentioned in isolated cases. Reports and strain descriptions list dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness as unwanted side effects, as well as feelings of anxiety and paranoia.
An analysis published in 2026 summarizes 2,159 flower analyses from 43 laboratories in US states, collected between 2018 and 2024. The median is 26.74 % total THC, the middle half of the samples lies between 23.46 and 29.83 %, and the highest single value is 37.63 %. Values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype; 96.4 % of the samples come from only 4 states. CBD is barely present: 965 of 1,340 tests with a CBD value found none, and the maximum was 0.31 %. One strain description gives 28 % THC and 1 % CBG.
Individual terpene values are available for 456 tests, 406 of them from Nevada. At the median, limonene leads with 0.59 %, ahead of beta-myrcene with 0.48 % and beta-caryophyllene with 0.44 %; the terpene total is 2.34 %. Strain descriptions as well as the providers MSNL and Zamnesia, by contrast, put caryophyllene first.
The sources assess the difficulty differently: Zamnesia rates its version as easy, MSNL and Barney's Farm as moderate, and one strain description as difficult. Despite the indica emphasis, marked stretching after the onset of flowering is described, and from seed the phenotypes vary in height, structure and flowering time according to MSNL. The flowers are dense and resinous, light green with orange pistils. Because dense buds and crowded shoots retain moisture towards the end of flowering, MSNL advises light defoliation; according to this provider, the strong smell calls for activated-carbon filtration indoors. Barney's Farm describes strong branches and a good response to high-stress and low-stress training. For outdoor cultivation, the descriptions name a warm climate and harvest in October.
A 2019 grow report with clones in soil and LST describes rapid vegetative growth and a sugar-like trichome coverage in the first weeks of flowering.
For the original line from Mamiko Seeds and the version from Skunk House Genetics, both from Chem D x GSC, feminized seeds and around 61 days of flowering are stated. Further providers list their own feminized lines from Chemdawg and Girl Scout Cookies:
