Mr. Nice Guy is a pure indica from G13 and Hash Plant that Sensi Seeds named after Howard Marks in 1999. It is described with an earthy, spicy aroma and a hashish note.

Research as of 10/25/2026

Earthy, spicy and sweet: this is how Sensi Seeds describes the scent of Mr. Nice Guy, a pure indica from G13 and Hash Plant that the breeder released in 1999 under the name Mr. Nice. As for taste, the breeder compares the strain to a blend of weed and hashish and explains the scent by its double Afghani ancestry. Other names in use are Mr. Nice, Mister Nice and G13 x Hash Plant; a genetically different strain is also sold under the name Mr Nice Guy.

Aroma and Flavor:

Beyond the base notes, Sensi Seeds lists lemon, oil, pepper, mint and forest. Another strain description adds wood and sage, and a further one speaks of a floral-sweet, spicy scent with woody undertones. In one grow report the taste is described as hashish, diesel and grapefruit. Consumers describe it as earthy with a slightly fruity touch, and a report on a concentrate of the strain mentions herbs and a woody-citrus finish.

The descriptions of the terpene profile diverge. One is based on laboratory samples and lists myrcene, caryophyllene and limonene as the dominant terpenes, while another puts bisabolol and camphene ahead of myrcene and limonene.

Genetics and Origin:

Sensi Seeds calls G13 a high-quality Afghani that, according to legend, was smuggled out of a state research center by a technician. To transfer its traits into seeds, the breeder chose a father from its own Hash Plant breeding program. The cross was not new in 1999: by its own account, Sensi Seeds put G13 x Hash Plant back into production that year and named it after Howard Marks, a former hashish smuggler who published an autobiography under the title Mr. Nice.

A hybrid of the same parentage had previously been carried by The Seed Bank, which Nevil Schoenmakers founded in 1984 and sold to Sensi Seeds in 1991. One strain description sees this G-13 x Hash Plant F1 as the basis of Mr. Nice, while another attributes the strain to Schoenmakers personally. Despite the shared name, it does not appear in the range of the Mr. Nice Seedbank.

At the Highlife Cup 2004, Mr. Nice took 2nd place in the Hydro category for seed banks, while one strain description gives 1st place instead. The strain is part of the parentage of, among others, 13 Flowers, Mokums Tulip and 2nd Sunday.

Effects:

Sensi Seeds describes a fast-onset, body-centered effect with deep calm up to couchlock. The core of the user reports consists of relaxation and tiredness, partly accompanied by euphoria, and one report describes a shift from a head high to a body high. The reports disagree on the mental component: some consumers found the strain creative and focused, others explicitly said it left them without drive.

As side effects, user reports mention dry mouth and headaches, and one adds dizziness and harsh smoke that provokes coughing. Strain descriptions also list dry eyes, and one lists paranoia as well.

THC and CBD Content:

One strain description that gives no laboratory source states 16 to 21 % THC and 0.1 to 0.5 % CBD, which makes the strain clearly THC-dominant. Some other descriptions set the THC content lower.

Cultivation:

According to Sensi Seeds, Mr. Nice flowers for 60 to 65 days and reaches 80 to 170 cm indoors and 190 to 240 cm outdoors. The breeder gives around 400 g/m² under artificial light and, for skilled growers, up to 1 kg per plant outdoors, where the strain needs warm, sunny locations and a long summer. The breeder describes a strong central stem with many bushy side branches.

A cultivation guide rates the strain as moderately difficult. It recommends early topping and removing the lower foliage so that pests have less to attack and the plant directs its energy into the upper shoots. The very dense, resinous buds are considered there to be prone to bud rot at high humidity.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Sensi Seeds offers Mr. Nice as regular seeds. Royal King Seeds distributes feminized seeds of the same cross with 68 % indica and 32 % sativa, 60 to 65 days of flowering, 400 g/m², up to 1 kg per plant outdoors and a height of 80 to 170 cm. Apart from the indica share, these are the same values that Sensi Seeds gives. Royal King Seeds puts the THC content of its own version at 20 to 23 % and the CBD content at 0.06 %.

Different genetics are behind the feminized Mr Nice Guy seeds from Captain Seeds, a cross of Northern Lights and Skunk. The supplier states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 400 to 550 g/m² indoors, 400 to 700 g per plant outdoors, a height of 100 to 180 cm, and 20 % THC and 0.5 % CBD.

According to its description, the earlier G-13 x Hash Plant F1 from The Seed Bank was ready to harvest after 45 to 50 days.

Community Experiences:

Grow reports paint a different picture from the breeder's. In one documented grow, the plant grew from 30 to 96 cm during 65 days of flowering and formed hardly any usable side shoots, but a dominant main-stem tip. The report therefore considers the strain suitable for dense planting in a Sea of Green, but not for growing again because of the weak branching.

Other growers highlight the resin coverage relative to the short flowering period. They describe the dried buds as hard and compact with an above-average bud-to-leaf ratio, and the plants as easy to care for and tolerant of over- or underfeeding. These reports do not mention mold problems.
