A strain description attributed to Bodhi Seeds compares the flavor of Blue Sunshine to vanilla ice cream, and several user reports likewise describe creamy, sweet notes. The breeder crossed Blue Dream with Sunshine Daydream, a hybrid from its own breeding program. At Bodhi it has been released only as regular seed.
Aroma and Flavor:
Strain descriptions mainly list berry and blueberry, along with butter, herbal, pine and a spicy sweetness; for flavor they highlight cream and fruit. Another description puts a note of lemon-lime soda and skunk alongside the vanilla ice cream. Consumers report a tart blueberry flavor with vanilla in the background, or a creamy, fruity scent with an herbal undertone. As dominant terpenes, a strain description based on analyses by certified labs lists myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene.
In the grow room, the smell reminded one grower of Blue Dream mixed with Chem and OG. In a plant from an F2 generation, the butter flavor came through particularly strongly after processing into rosin; it was culled anyway because it was prone to mold.
Genetics and Origin:
Waffle House Genetics specifies which Blue Dream is in the cross: the breeder calls it Santa Cruz Blue Dream. Sunshine Daydream originated at Bodhi from Bubbashine and Appalachia. Bubbashine combines Bubba Kush with a stretchy-growing indica phenotype of Blue Moonshine, and Appalachia traces back to Green Crack and Tres Dawg. This part of the lineage can reappear in later generations: in an F2 population of Blue Sunshine, one phenotype clearly showed the traits of Green Crack, according to a grower.
Strain descriptions classify Blue Sunshine as predominantly indica, one of them at 60 % indica and 40 % sativa. Waffle House Genetics crossed the strain with Blueberry Sundae from Cannarado Genetics to make Blumanji.
Effects:
User reports describe a euphoric, uplifting effect with creative and energizing traits, plus a tingling in the body. Some consumers call it functional and clear-headed, others speak of focus or of relaxation without tiredness. One strain description, by contrast, characterizes it as stony and productive at once. One report found the effect more silly and hazy than uplifting, another assigned the strain to the evening despite the energizing traits. Nervousness is named as a side effect.
THC and CBD Content:
The description attributed to Bodhi Seeds gives 21 % THC and 0 % CBD. Other strain descriptions give THC values between 15 and 21 %, one of them 1 % CBD. Several consumers found the strain stronger than the stated values would suggest.
Cultivation:
According to the description attributed to Bodhi Seeds, Blue Sunshine can be cultivated indoors and outdoors. Indoors, flowering takes 7 to 12 weeks depending on phenotype and the yield is around 500 g/m²; outdoors the plants grow over 200 cm tall.
One documented indoor grow came to 78 days of flowering and a very high yield. The plants grew vigorously and sturdily, formed rather few but resilient side shoots and needed a lot of vertical space; they responded well to topping the main stem. The dried buds turned out hard and compact, and the calyx-to-leaf ratio was average. Because of its susceptibility to fungal infestation, the same report rates the strain as demanding. Another grower likewise links high quality and high yield with low mold resistance, as observed among several growers. A third report describes narrow leaves, a probably long flowering phase and abundant resin as early as day 28 of flowering.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Under the same name, Solar Panel lists a genetically different strain, which is also based on Bodhi material. The breeder crossed a Blueberry Hashplant selection with a Triple Sunshine male, chose the phenotype Blue Sunshine #4 from it and paired it with a Twin Flame male. Solar Panel states around 60 days of flowering, distributes regular seeds and names indoor, outdoor and greenhouse as growing methods. 3 phenotypes are described: a light green one with dense, small buds and a subtle berry and Kush aroma, a purple-colored one with high yield and low nutrient demand, and a strong one with Kush smell and small yield. The near-complete resistance to mold and pests stated by the breeder applies to this cross, not to the Bodhi strain.
