Reeferman Seeds from Canada released Cherry Haze as a cross of a Cherry Bomb Indica and Purple Haze; a French strain description already listed it in February 2011. The identically named breeding by TreeTown Seeds shares little with this line beyond the name. There, Cherry Haze came from Cherry OZone and Original Haze, with the stated goal of high THC and THCV levels.
Genetics and Origin:
The Cherry Bomb and Purple Haze parentage also appears in general strain profiles that name no breeder. One of them traces the parent lines back to Afghanistan, Colombia and Thailand, another puts the ratio at 70 % sativa and 30 % indica. The same description text as for Reeferman Seeds is now also circulating under the name Scott Family Farms.
For its own version, TreeTown Seeds explained the origin itself. The father was a green phenotype of Original Haze from Flying Dutchman, the mother was Cherry OZone, a line that had previously been backcrossed several times to a male AK-47 from Serious Seeds with a cherry phenotype. Original Haze in turn goes back to Santa Marta Gold, Wacky Weed and Colombian genetics.
A third lineage is given by the strain description of a dispensary in Washington, D.C.: Cherry Pie and Super Silver Haze, with no breeder named.
Versions from Different Breeders:
For the Reeferman version, 9 to 10 weeks of flowering and a yield of 500 g/m² are stated; the French description gives 65 to 75 days and regular seeds. The breeder text highlights firmly closed, heavily frosted flowers with a sweet cherry scent. Under the name Scott Family Farms the same description appears with a flowering time of about 67 days, regular seeds and suitability for indoor and outdoor cultivation.
TreeTown Seeds states that most plants of its version reach over 20 % THC, some well over 22 %. According to the breeder, indoor harvest is usually after 70 days, with individual plants needing up to 77 days; outdoors the variety ripens by late November. TreeTown never offered feminized seeds.
Cultivation:
The most detailed cultivation notes come from TreeTown Seeds and concern their version. The plants grow narrow and form a dominant main stem that reaches about 2 feet by harvest. After the switch to flowering they stretch by 170 to 200 %, which is why the breeder considers switching at a height of just 12 inches possible and advises against topping. For planting density TreeTown gives 12 to 16 plants per 16 square feet.
According to the breeder, the variety is easy to cultivate but prone to nutrient burn. A nutrient solution of 1200 ppm is said to have proved effective; after 2 weeks the nitrogen should be reduced and the room kept at 84 °F. By its own account, TreeTown has not observed problems with pests or powdery mildew.
Statements on flower structure diverge: the Reeferman text speaks of dense buds, whereas a general profile describes loose, airy flowers in mint green with thin red-orange hairs.
Aroma and Flavor:
Sweet cherry is in the foreground in all descriptions read. Berries, grapes, apple and blueberry are also mentioned, with spicy Haze notes on the finish and in some cases earth, wood, citrus and floral notes. Other strain descriptions list myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by pinene and caryophyllene.
One user report describes the cherry flavor as strong but not overly sweet, another as sweet with a woody, earthy note. A third, relating to an extract, compared the taste to coffee.
Effects:
User reports describe a stimulating, head-centered effect with energy, focus, good mood and creativity; individual consumers mention euphoria, giddiness and a tingling in the body. Several reports also mention physical relaxation. One report departs clearly from this, describing tiredness, hunger and dizziness. A profile additionally mentions increased desire.
Side effects mentioned are dry eyes and dry mouth, as well as paranoia, nervousness, overstimulation and dizziness. One report mentions nausea at a higher dose, and other strain descriptions list headaches.
THC Content:
General strain descriptions give 19 % THC and 1 % CBG for Cherry Haze, without naming a specific breeder version.
