Glazed Apricot Gelato by Compound Genetics crosses Gelato #1 with a Legend Orange Apricot male; apricot dominates the aroma, while the classification as indica or sativa is disputed.

Research as of 10/27/2026

For the father of Glazed Apricot Gelato, Compound Genetics names a single plant: male #23 from the F2 generation of Legend Orange Apricot. It was used to pollinate Gelato #1. Through Gelato, Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint Cookies enter the cross, and through the apricot line Legend OG and Orange Apricot. The strain is also known as Apricot Gelato and Glazed Apricot.

Genetics and Origin:

Legend Orange Apricot traces back to Capulator. Christopher Lynch, founder of Compound Genetics, received seeds of this cross at the Chalice Festival in late 2016, selected one female and one male breeding plant from them and built an F2 line on that basis, whose seeds were due to be released in summer 2017 according to the breeder. The company was founded in 2017 in Portland, Oregon, and moved to San Francisco in 2019.

How the strain should be classified remains disputed. Compound Genetics describes it as predominantly indica-leaning, and one strain description puts the ratio at 70 % indica to 30 % sativa. Another lists it as sativa-dominant, as does the genetics archive HENDRX, while the genetics supplier Segra lists it as a balanced hybrid. That same sativa-dominant description names Glass House Farms as the breeder; HENDRX, Segra and Universally Seeded, by contrast, give Compound Genetics as the breeder.

Universally Seeded crossed Glazed Apricot Gelato with Cement Shoes to create Glazed Cement Apricot. Apricot Icecream by Enlightened Genetics and Orange Cake by Cookie Fam Genetics are also recorded as offspring.

Aroma and Flavor:

Apricot and sweet tree fruit dominate the descriptions. One strain description adds a tart lemon note and a syrupy sweet, creamy flavor, and consumers compare the aroma to peach and citrus. HENDRX lists cheese, citrus, menthol, pine and spice alongside apricot, and Segra lists orange, apricot and cream. Press reports on individual batches describe the smell as strongly citrusy and as sweet with a sharp sourness, respectively. Occasionally a gassy aftertone as well as lavender and grape notes stand out.

On the terpene profile, one strain description and HENDRX agree: terpinolene comes first, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. Segra deviates and reports elevated levels of trans- and cis-nerolidol and caryophyllene for its own material.

Effects:

In general, user reports describe a euphoric, uplifted mood accompanied by a tingling in the body. Added to this are creativity, focus, talkativeness and drive, combined with physical relaxation that does not tip into heavy sedation. Other reports clearly disagree: two press reports and one user report describe a heavy, fast-onset sedation, and one consumer explicitly disputes the classification as stimulating. One report gives the duration of effects as 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Side effects named are dry mouth, dry eyes and nervousness. Harsh smoke that triggers coughing is mentioned twice, and a heavy body feel that pins one to the couch once.

THC and CBD Content:

Two laboratory measurements published in press reports gave 22.3 to 25.7 % THC; values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype. Green Country Testing measured 25.7 % THC and 0.23 % CBD (published 2019), Cannabest Labs 22.3 % THC and 0 % CBD (published 2021). One strain description gives 17 to 26 % THC, another 1 % CBG. HENDRX gives 19 to 23 % THC for its plants, Segra 20 to 25 % THC with less than 1 % CBD.

Cultivation:

Compound Genetics states a flowering time of 9 to 10 weeks, a medium yield and a medium to tall plant height; the strain is listed for indoor and outdoor cultivation. HENDRX gives indoor harvest readiness after 56 to 58 days, outdoors early to mid-October. Segra gives 56 to 63 days, describes strong stretch and, differing from the breeder, rates the yield as high.

Observations on coloration diverge. One press report describes light green flowers with many orange pistils and medium to dense trichome coverage, another purple and dark green, densely frosted flowers. Segra lists purple coloration as a trait, and HENDRX names green, orange, purple, white and red. One user report describes the flowers as rather loose.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Compound Genetics released the strain as regular seed. So Hum Seeds and HENDRX list a feminized, fast-flowering Quick version, for which Glazed Apricot Gelato was pollinated with a pollen donor from the Quick line of Coastal; 23 to 24 % THC is stated for it. Sunwest Genetics lists feminized seeds with the lineage Gelato and Legend Orange Apricot and states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 18 % THC and 9 % CBD. The CBD value does not match the published laboratory measurements.
