Jungle Spice

In a documented grow, Jungle Spice took around 3 weeks after the switch to the flowering phase before the first flower sites became visible. Until then the plants had grown vigorously, responded well to training and tolerated high temperatures in the tent without any visible problems. The strain comes from Bodhi Seeds and combines a landrace from the Congo with a Hashplant line listed as 88 G13 x HP.

Cultivation:

Bodhi Seeds states 9 to 10 weeks of flowering and describes thick, compact buds. No feminized seed has ever existed for this strain; it is distributed as regular seed. Other strain descriptions list it as suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation and describe large, dense flowers on a sturdy plant with heavy colas.

The same grow report that records the late start of flowering also describes leaf stems that stayed red throughout the entire cultivation period.

Genetics and Origin:

One parent line is a Congo landrace, which mostly appears under the name Congo Pine in strain descriptions. The other, 88 G13 x HP, traces back to G13 and Hash Plant via the G13 x Hash Plant cross distributed by Sensi Seeds and The Seed Bank; Hash Plant in turn goes back to a California Indica and Northern Lights #1.

The indica share is reported inconsistently: one strain description gives 65 % indica and 35 % sativa, while a producer speaks of a ratio of 60 to 40. In 2018 a project started in the grower community to preserve the line through an open-pollinated F2 generation. As a parent, Jungle Spice appears in Astro Lemonade by Royal Queen Seeds, a feminized F1 cross with Gorilla Diesel.

Aroma and Flavor:

Bodhi Seeds describes the terpenes as hashish, incense and pine cone. Pine and spice recur in the other descriptions, joined by pepper, wood, herbs and earth. One of them mentions floral notes that become more pronounced as consumption goes on. One source stands out by listing cheese and berries. Users who comment on the flavor call it spicy.

Effects:

The breeder speaks of a long-lasting, balanced effect. User reports describe a distinctly activating onset that shifts into relaxation, naming creativity, talkativeness, good mood, giddiness and focus. A pine-leaning phenotype from the preservation project was regarded as stimulating and clear-headed. One producer, by contrast, describes quick-onset physical relaxation, and one strain description notes that the strain does not fully lock you to the couch. Dry mouth and dry eyes are named as side effects.

THC and CBD Content:

Strain descriptions give values between 14 and 22 % THC. Two producers have published measured values for their flowers without naming the lab: 23.82 % THC at 0.02 % CBD in one case (2017), 28.33 % THC in the other. Such values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype.

The second measurement lists 1.28 % terpinolene, 0.84 % myrcene and 0.23 % caryophyllene as terpenes. One strain description also puts terpinolene first, followed there by limonene and ocimene.
