Grape Gasoline

Several prizes at cannabis competitions in the USA carry the name Grape Gasoline. At the New Mexico Growers Cup 2023, a concentrate of the strain took 1st place in the Concentrates category, and at the Northwest Leaf Bowl 2024 a Grape Gasoline won the category for sweet strains. Under the short name Grape Gas, an entry won the Indica Flower category at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan that same year, and at Best in Grass in Oklahoma a concentrate award went to Grape Gas. The awards went to growing operations and extract producers; whether all plants entered as Grape Gas trace back to the same genetics is left open by the result lists.

Genetics and Origin:

The strain was bred by Christopher Lynch at Compound Genetics, the company he founded in Portland, Oregon, in 2017 and relocated to San Francisco in 2019. He crossed Grape Pie from Cannarado Genetics, a line from Grape Stomper and Cherry Pie, with Jet Fuel Gelato from his own stock. According to Compound Genetics, Jet Fuel Gelato traces back to Gelato 45 and a cross of High Octane with Jet Fuel G6. On classification, the strain descriptions contradict each other: some regard Grape Gasoline as an indica-dominant hybrid, others as balanced.

Compound Genetics has used the strain, listed as Grape Gas in its own crosses, many times in further breeding. Pink Certz, Gastro Pop, El Chivo, Mellowz and Any Day, among others, come from this line; in two seed collections the breeder also combined Grape Gas with The Menthol, Pavé, Honey Banana and other strains. Dragon Gas, a cross with Zero Gravity, is also listed as an offspring.

Aroma and Flavor:

Compound Genetics describes the scent as sweet candy grape followed by a strong gasoline note, and also mentions cookie dough. Consumer reports confirm the pattern of grape on the inhale and fuel on the exhale. Individual reports mention a cheesy undertone, wine-like notes, hashish or blueberry; other strain descriptions add earthy tones and berries.

Effects:

Consumer reports describe mainly relaxation, euphoria and elevated mood; the breeder speaks of an uplifting and at the same time calming effect. Some reports describe initial focus and energy that later turns into drowsiness; tingling, talkativeness and giddiness are also mentioned. Reported side effects include dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness and an accelerated heartbeat, and one strain description also lists paranoia and headaches. One report describes impairment so strong that the person no longer felt capable of riding a bike.

THC and CBD Content:

For a batch packaged in Canada in 2023, the seller stated 27.5 % THC and 1.5 % total terpenes, with myrcene, ocimenes and caryophyllene as the main terpenes. This is a single figure; the measuring lab is not named on the product page. Strain descriptions give 22 to 30 % THC and 0 to 1 % CBD, another gives 25 % THC and 1 % CBG, there with myrcene, linalool and caryophyllene as the dominant terpenes.

Cultivation:

Compound Genetics attests good agronomic traits and easy cultivation for the strain. Strain descriptions give 8 to 9 weeks of flowering and consider Grape Gasoline suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation, outdoors preferably in a warm, Mediterranean climate. According to one description, the plant responds well to topping and LST, which limits vertical growth. According to the breeder, the round buds with their large, frosted calyxes turn dark purple.

Statements on stretch differ. Kaprikorn describes a sturdy plant that hardly stretches in flower and needs little support late on, though its dense interior benefits from a trellis net stretched outward. Another description expects 1.5 to 2 times the height after the switch to flowering.

Versions from Different Breeders:

The original version from Compound Genetics is documented only as feminized seed. True Canna Genetics lists under the name Grape Gas an S1 line obtained through self-pollination, also feminized; described for it are around 63 days of flowering, 20 to 25 % THC, compact, bushy plants and almost black-purple buds at harvest. Kaprikorn gives 8 to 9 weeks of flowering and a high yield for its plants and names indoor, outdoor and Light-Dep as growing methods. ILGM gives 60 to 70 days of flowering and 18 to 22 % THC for Grape Gas and lists an autoflower variant alongside.

The Grape Gasoline from Black Farm Genetix has a different pedigree, a cross of Grapenanagas and Limosa with more than 60 % indica. The producer's figures are 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, up to 600 g/m² indoors, 400 to 1000 g per plant outdoors and 25 to 30 % THC.

Community Experiences:

On flavor and strength, the consumer reports largely agree. Deviating from this, one report found the strain unremarkable, another found it more stimulating than sedating, and a third described a quickly fading effect. Consumers are also uncertain whether Grape Gas and Grape Gasoline refer to the same strain.
