Grape OG

Grape OG does not need much fertilizer: in 2 documented indoor grows the plants got by on low nutrient doses, and one of the two reports notes that they tolerated over- and underfeeding poorly. The cross of Grape Romulan and Tahoe OG Kush comes from The Cali Connection. It stands out toward the end of flowering, when the plants change color; one producer describes purple tones that appear even under CO2 enrichment, high heat and strong lighting.

Cultivation:

According to The Cali Connection, the strain flowers for 8 to 9 weeks and yields around 300 g/m². According to the breeder, seed exists only in feminized form, and the plant can be grown indoors and outdoors. One strain description assigns it to temperate and Mediterranean climates. The grow reports confirm the flowering window at 55 and 56 days. In both cases the plants appeared stocky and fast-growing, once with a fir-shaped silhouette, once bushy with many long side branches that carried numerous thick buds.

Reports diverge on yield and on how demanding the strain is. In the grow where the plants were trained by mainlining, 2 pots of 7 gallons each produced roughly 1 pound; that report describes the buds as hard and compact and the plants as little prone to mold, and considers the strain suitable only for seasoned growers. The second report rates the yield as somewhat below average, yet sees the strain as manageable even for beginners and as suited to low grow spaces and Sea of Green. According to it, the plant responds well to topping the main stem but needs support during flowering.

Genetics and Origin:

The strain descriptions name Grape Romulan and Tahoe OG Kush as parents. One lists the mother as Romulan Grapefruit and Tahoe OG Kush as the father, another calls the OG parent Tahoe OG Kush S1. The sources disagree on classification: the breeder description speaks of 60 % sativa and 40 % indica, elsewhere Grape OG is treated as an indica-dominant hybrid, and one of the grow reports also describes the growth as indica-leaning.

Other breeders have worked further with the Cali Connection strain. Small Boutique Farms crossed it with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough to make Chocolate Mintz, and Doc's Dank Seeds crossed it with Dr Who to make Escher. Grape Escape also traces back to Grape Stomper and Grape OG.

Aroma and Flavor:

Grape is in the foreground, accompanied by lemon and floral notes; the breeder description adds undertones of fuel and hash. User reports compare the flavor to fresh grape juice, grape soda and grape fizz powder, and describe it as sweet and smooth. One producer names a pine-like finish alongside the grape. In the grow with mainlining, the buds tasted of pure grape with lemon accents, although the report attributes the grape aroma in part to a grape additive in the fertilizer.

On the terpene profile, one strain description contradicts itself. In its running text it names myrcene as the dominant terpene, whereas its overview, which by its own account is based on products tested in certified laboratories, lists caryophyllene ahead of myrcene and humulene.

Effects:

User reports describe happiness, relaxation and an uplifted mood, along with euphoria, creativity and giddiness. Which way the strain pulls varies between reports: some describe it as calm and mellow without tiredness, others as sleep-inducing, still others as stimulating and focusing; a few consider it sativa-leaning. In the grow report with mainlining, a creative, energizing phase was followed by a markedly subduing effect. One producer describes physical relaxation to the point of sluggishness and heavy eyelids. In one report the effect set in after 10 to 15 minutes. Dry mouth, dry eyes and nervousness appear as unwanted side effects, and one report also mentions a harsh cough.

THC Content:

One strain description gives 16 % THC and 1 % CBG. The considerably higher values cited by Purple Caper Seeds apply to a different strain of the same name.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Besides The Cali Connection, Purple Caper Seeds also lists a Grape OG, but with a different pedigree: it combines Cali Grape with a cross of Fire OG and True OG. This version is regarded as predominantly indica-leaning. The breeder gives a flowering time of about 63 days and speaks of measured values that regularly lie between 27 and 32 % THC; only regular seed exists for it, for indoor and outdoor cultivation. The Cali Connection, by contrast, lists 8 to 9 weeks and exclusively feminized seeds.
