Ice Cream Cake
also known as ICC, Ice Cream Cookies
Ice Cream Cake is a cross of Wedding Cake and Gelato #33 from Seed Junky Genetics; a separate line of the same name exists from Mad Scientist Genetics.
For Ice Cream Cake, Seed Junky Genetics of Los Angeles crossed Wedding Cake with Gelato #33, which is also known as Larry Bird. A line of the same name from Mad Scientist Genetics has a different pedigree, and several seed producers also offer their own versions of the Seed Junky cross. The abbreviation ICC is in common use.
Genetics and Origin:
Seed Junky Genetics is run by Anthony Hart, who goes by JBeezy. A 2022 trade article places the strain's emergence around 2018; according to one strain description, Seed Junky released the seeds only in regular form. Through the parent lines, the ancestry goes back to GSC and OG Kush.
Cuttings of individual phenotypes are also in circulation. ICC #63 is regarded as Seed Junky's breeder's cut; a 2020 review highlighted its pronounced creamy aroma, which smells less of Gelato than other phenotypes do. Booney Acres in Trinity County selected another one. At The Emerald Cup 2019, an Ice Cream Cake from a Santa Barbara operation took 1st place in the mixed-light flower category. Sherb Cream Pie is documented as an offspring, a cross with Sherb Bx1.
Aroma and Flavor:
Strain descriptions mention mainly vanilla, butter and sweet dough, along with pepper and nuts. One adds a slight tartness like cream cheese frosting, as well as citrus and herbs on the exhale. Barney's Farm describes its version as smelling of creamy cheese, earth and nuts, with a taste of vanilla and a hint of pine. According to a trade article, some samples smell of mint or distinctly of fuel. In consumer reports, vanilla, butter and a peppery aftertaste recur.
Strain descriptions list caryophyllene, limonene and linalool as the dominant terpenes; Barney's Farm names limonene, myrcene and caryophyllene for its version.
Effects:
Reports describe an onset that lifts the mood and settles in the head before a warm, heavy relaxation spreads through the body; tiredness is described toward the end. How strongly the strain keeps users on the couch varies between reports, from mild relaxation to heaviness that is hard to overcome. Side effects that appear are dry mouth, dizziness and nervousness, and at high doses also paranoia and headaches. One report mentions an urge to cough from the dense smoke.
THC Content:
A strain description based on lab data gives an average of 22 % THC and 1 % CBG, while another cites around 23 % THC for the Seed Junky line. The breeders' figures for the individual versions deviate from this.
Cultivation:
For the Seed Junky line, strain descriptions give 8 to 9 weeks of flowering; for the Booney Acres selection, 56 to 63 days and an outdoor harvest in early to mid-October are stated. The plants grow bushy with broad, dark green leaves and form dense, heavy flowers under a thick coating of trichomes, light green with dark purple areas. A cultivation guide attributes the purple coloration to falling temperatures toward the end of flowering.
Assessments of difficulty differ: one description calls the strain easy to grow, another assigns it to advanced growers. The guide mentioned warns of mold, powdery mildew and mites, relies on low humidity and recommends Screen of Green, a double trellis net and, outdoors, support stakes.
Community Experiences:
A documented indoor grow of a cutting shows pronounced stretch after the switch to flowering; the plant grew up to the lamp. It tolerated LST and heavy defoliation well; after about 60 days of flowering it was ready for harvest. Flowers and sugar leaves turned purple late, and the smell was intensely sweet. The harvest was 130 g of compact flowers and 40 g of smaller material, plus 30 g of dry sift from the trim. A report on the Barney's Farm version notes dense flowers and a slight calcium-magnesium deficiency; otherwise the grow went without problems.
