The breeder of Skunk Ape is not documented. The strain descriptions consistently name Las Vegas Purple Kush and Original Glue, also listed as GG4, as parents and classify the cross as an indica-dominant hybrid. Several of the user reports reviewed and the only batch measurement that could be found concern flowers from Florida.
Genetics and Origin:
No information is available on the original breeder. One strain description puts the ratio at 85 % indica and 15 % sativa, while another lists Skunk Ape as a pure indica. A further text suggests, contrary to the usual pedigree, descent from Grape Ape and Skunk #1 but offers no evidence for it. Crop King Seeds lists a feminized version and likewise names Las Vegas Purple Kush and Original Glue as parents.
Aroma and Flavor:
Hash and coffee with an undertone of chocolate is how one scent description reads. Another stresses earthy Kush notes and spicy herbs overlaid by a fruity skunk tone, in part with hints of grapes. Crop King Seeds names citrus, herbs, skunk, spice and chocolate for its own version. In flavor, consumers describe earthy and peppery-spicy tones, occasionally a sweetish coffee note or a floral touch.
Reports differ on odor intensity. One detailed test found the flowers rather mild despite the name, with a sweet, hash-like scent. Other reports describe a penetrating skunk smell.
Effects:
At their core, the reports describe a relaxing, body-focused effect with marked tiredness; several consumers therefore assign the strain to the evening. Euphoria, elevated mood and silliness also occur. A few, by contrast, found Skunk Ape stimulating or creative. One detailed report describes a slightly uplifting onset that gives way to heavy body relaxation up to couch-lock.
Side effects mentioned are dry mouth and dry eyes, occasionally also nervousness and mild paranoia. One consumer reports altered visual perception at a high dose.
THC and CBD Content:
Crop King Seeds states 14 % THC and 1 % CBD for its version. Another strain description gives 20 to 23 % THC. User reports on flowers from Florida cite package figures between 17.7 and 29 % THC.
Lab Results:
A batch of medical flowers dispensed in Florida in late 2019 was measured at 15.8 % THC and 0.4 % CBG; the analysis showed 0.0 % for CBD. This is a single measurement from 2019, and the laboratory is not named. Among the terpenes, myrcene was highest at 0.336 %, ahead of caryophyllene at 0.250 % and limonene at 0.185 %; total content was 0.771 %.
In 2 further analyses cited by a manufacturer of terpene blends, caryophyllene ranked first instead, at 2.26 % and 0.837 % respectively. In the first, myrcene and limonene followed; in the second, alpha-bisabolol. Such values vary with batch, cultivation and phenotype.
Cultivation:
The cultivation data come from Crop King Seeds and apply to its feminized version. The supplier states a flowering time of 60 to 70 days, a yield of about 400 g/m² indoors and up to 800 g per plant outdoors. The plants are said to reach 5 to 8 feet, which converts to 152 to 244 cm. Outdoors, harvest is due in mid-October according to Crop King Seeds. The breeder describes the strain as resistant to pests and suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation, with a preference for a warm, Mediterranean climate.
Community Experiences:
Bud appearance varies. Medium-sized, deep purple flowers under dense trichome coverage are mentioned, elsewhere olive-green flowers with a purple tinge and amber-colored hairs. One user report describes dense purple flowers with green sections, another light green ones with orange hairs. Some consumers draw a comparison to the parent Original Glue.
