Blue Zkittlez

Blue Zkittlez is a cross of Blue Diamond and Zkittlez that several strain descriptions attribute to Dying Breed Seeds. In the pedigree information, the Zkittlez parent appears under the name The Original Z. The indica-leaning hybrid is also known as Blue Z, Bzk, Blue Zkz and Blue Zkittles.

Genetics and Origin:

Both parents come with compound pedigrees of their own. According to the pedigree information, The Original Z traces back to 3rd Gen Family and Terp Hogz and combines Grape Ape and Grapefruit with an undisclosed third strain. Blue Diamond comes from BioQueen Seeds according to the same source and combines Blue Dream with Diamond OG.

Who bred Blue Zkittlez is not entirely settled. Besides the attribution to Dying Breed Seeds, one strain description names Terp Hogz as the original breeders. The figures for the indica share also differ, with 70 % and 80 % given. The route of propagation likewise remains open: one description considers the strain probably available only as a cutting, whereas Dying Breed Seeds lists it as regular seed. Feminized or autoflowering variants are not documented.

Several breeders have used Blue Zkittlez in further crosses. Massive Creations crossed it with Limburger to make Blue Z Burger, Equilibrium Genetics with M-Con to make Blue Z-Con, and Socal Seed Vault with High School Sweetheart Breath to make Mothman. Big Dog Exotic Cannabis Seeds combined it with a White Truffle cutting for Blue Candy Truffles and Frosted Blue Skittlez, and Dying Breed Seeds itself used Diesel Dog for Blue Dogstar.

Aroma and Flavor:

Strain descriptions characterize the scent as tart citrus over sweet earth and wildflowers, while others emphasize berry, diesel and earthy tones. A product test published in 2020 described the smell simply as candy, without further nuance. In the smoke, this sweetness mixed with the taste of burning herb, which the tester found intrusive over time. In user reports, berry and blueberry appear repeatedly, whereas one report found hop-like notes and no candy sweetness.

Effects:

The strain descriptions paint a body-centered picture: calm, moderately sedating, with heavy limbs and stimulated appetite. User reports confirm relaxation, sleepiness and hunger and also describe euphoria, creativity and a tingling throughout the body, which lasted 2 to 3 hours in one report.

Individual consumers report differently, describing an activating effect with a desire to talk, and one considered the strain rather wakefulness-inducing. The 2020 product test described a light head without fatigue. Listed side effects are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness; one report describes initial nervousness and jitters, others a harsh smoke that triggers coughing.

THC and CBD Content:

In a single measurement by F.A.S.T. Laboratories, reported in a 2020 product test, one batch came in at 27.1 % THC and 0.07 % CBD with 1.8 % limonene. For another lab sample, myrcene, pinene and limonene are given as the dominant terpenes, while one strain description lists myrcene, pinene and caryophyllene. Several strain descriptions put the content at 20 % THC and 1 % CBD, others considerably lower.

Cultivation:

For flowering time, several strain descriptions give 8 to 9 weeks, a single one 6 to 7 weeks. Outdoors, harvest is given as October, and according to the descriptions, indoor spaces and outdoor sites are possible growing locations. They rate the difficulty as medium, and one of them also rates yield and plant height as medium. The smell during flowering is described as so intense that odor control may become necessary.

The descriptions of the buds are inconsistent. Some speak of very dense, olive-green buds with an amber undertone and abundant resin coverage, others of small dark green ones. The batch tested in 2020 was light green with few orange pistils, and one user report mentions large buds and high yield.
