Now and Later

As a Zkittlez cross from Beyond Top Shelf, Now and Later is the best documented. The breeder combined The Original Z from Dying Breed Seeds with Abula from Pacific NW Roots and lists the result as Now N LaterZ; the spellings Now N Later, Now N' Laterz and Now & Laterz are also common. Under the same name, 2 other breeders have released strains with their own lineage.

Genetics and Origin:

Abula is regarded as predominantly sativa-leaning and goes back to Strawberry Diesel and Alien Kush F2; Pacific NW Roots highlights strawberry, cherry and fuel in its aroma. For Now and Later itself, strain descriptions give a balanced ratio of 50 % indica and 50 % sativa. A review from November 2020 already lists Beyond Top Shelf as the original breeder; the name alludes to a US candy.

The strain has since served several breeders as a parent. Karma Genetics used it for Now And Sour and Now 'N Biker, Dank Genetics crossed it with Dank Sherbert to make Dank N Later, and Guava Now N Later comes from Swamp Boys Seeds.

Aroma and Flavor:

Beyond Top Shelf describes the profile as sour watermelon, cherry and candy. Other strain descriptions mention sweet citrus notes over earth, herbs and wood, one of them also apricot, pepper, cheese and gas. In user reports the nose appears sweet and citrus-led, turning more sour on the exhale; other reports emphasize berries with a light spiciness and a distinct gas note. Strain descriptions give myrcene as the leading terpene, along with pinene and limonene, and in one case additionally cymene and terpinolene.

THC and CBD Content:

Strain descriptions give 20 to 26 % THC. US producers have published batch values, though without naming the testing lab: 2 batches from Maryland were reported at 23.51 % THC and 0.24 % CBD and at 27.25 % THC and 0.03 % CBD respectively, and one batch from 2024 at 27.6 % THCA. Such values vary with batch, cultivation and phenotype. Based on the available figures, the strain is THC-dominant.

Effects:

Strain descriptions characterize Now and Later as a strain with a delayed onset: light at first, increasingly sedating later. User reports describe euphoria, relaxation and a tingling in the body, as well as good mood, focus or drive. Reports name dry eyes and dry mouth as side effects; strain descriptions additionally mention anxiety, paranoia and headaches.

Community Experiences:

Reports differ on speed and intensity. Some describe an immediate rush in the head that moves into the body instead of the slow start, or a strong effect from the beginning. The portrayal as a strongly sedating strain is set against reports of a functional, creative effect without tiredness. One report found the effect weak, another mentions a strong urge to cough.

Cultivation:

Beyond Top Shelf gives 60 to 65 days of flowering for Now N LaterZ and released the strain as regular seeds. Other strain descriptions estimate a considerably longer flowering period and rate the strain as demanding. One of them points to susceptibility to mold and powdery mildew and considers precise control of humidity necessary.

Breeders and reviews differ on the appearance of the flowers. Beyond Top Shelf speaks of thick, compact buds on a sturdy frame with heavy trichome coverage. Reviews instead describe small, roundish flowers ranging from light green to dark olive green with many orange hairs, whose firmness varies between soft and quite dense; some flowers show purple areas.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Genetically independent of the Zkittlez line is Now & Later from IDGSeeds, a cross of Jamaican Grape Pheno #2 and Mandala #1. IDGSeeds states 80 % sativa and 20 % indica, 56 to 70 days of flowering, medium yield at medium height, over 20 % THC and 0 to 1 % CBD. The breeder chose the name because scent and taste recalled lemon-lime candies. According to IDGSeeds, the plant forms one central main stem with many side branches and is specified for indoor, outdoor and greenhouse; it was released as regular seeds.

EarthFire Genetics lists a cross of Candyland and Blue Power as Now N Later, also as regular seeds, and from it bred the follow-up strain Now N Later OG with OG Mobfather Kush.
