Strawberry Cake, formerly Strawberry Cheesecake, is a three-way cross of Chronic, White Widow and Cheese from Heavyweight Seeds with a cheese-forward, sweet aroma.
Heavyweight Seeds originally released this three-way cross of Chronic, White Widow and Cheese as Strawberry Cheesecake; it now goes by the name Strawberry Cake. The breeder puts the genetics at 70 % indica and 30 % sativa and highlights the Cheese line in the aroma, backed by an underlying sweetness. Other breeders market strains under the same name with their own lineage, including an autoflowering variety and a CBD-rich line.
In Heavyweight Seeds' account, Cheese contributes the intense smell, Chronic the fruity component and the potency, while White Widow is named as the third parent line. Under its earlier name, the strain already appears in a grow report that started in December 2012.
As a parent, Strawberry Cake is documented in 2 breeding projects. Heavyweight Seeds crossed it with Fast & Vast Auto to create the autoflowering Strawberry Cake Auto. For Strawberry Nightmare Cheese Cake, MadCat's Backyard Stash combined a female Strawberry Cheesecake from Heavyweight Seeds with a Nightmare OG father from Sin City Seeds.
How much strawberry comes through in the aroma is judged differently by consumers. One grower described vanilla cream and skunk with strawberry in the background, while other reports name strawberry and cheese clearly. Alongside these are impressions of sweetness with pine, gas and pepper, of orange oil with a medicine-like undertone, or of chemical sourness on a grassy base. Testing of a batch of medical flower distributed in Australia found neither strawberry nor cake, but a musty base note with distinct terpinolene in the smell.
Strain descriptions and product listings name pinene, caryophyllene and myrcene as the lead terpenes, sometimes supplemented with limonene. The Australian batch, by contrast, listed terpinolene, myrcene, ocimene and bisabolol.
Reports describe a rapid onset with an uplifted mood and euphoria, sometimes with creativity or giggliness, which transitions into noticeable physical relaxation. With continued use, one report describes slowed thinking and sleepiness. Others experienced the strain as clear-headed and focused, with one grower even finding it energizing in the morning.
Strain descriptions list dry mouth, dry or red eyes and dizziness as accompanying effects, with higher amounts also bringing lightheadedness and paranoid thoughts.
Heavyweight Seeds states 22 % THC and 1.3 % CBD. Another strain description puts the THC content notably lower at 15 % and additionally lists 1 % CBG. For medical flower of this strain, 21 to 26 % THC is declared, with 2 of the products also listing 1 % CBD; these are manufacturer figures, not published analyses. The Australian batch was listed at 22 % THC and 2.13 % CBG.
According to Heavyweight Seeds, the plant grows quickly, stays short and compact, and forms thick buds early. Indoors, the breeder states 8 weeks of flowering, 80 to 130 cm in height and 500 g/m²; outdoors, 150 to 200 cm, 700 to 900 g per plant and harvest in early October in the northern hemisphere.
A grow report from 2017 confirms the quick growth. Cuttings were easy to root, pruning barely slowed the plants down, and with enough space they formed bushes with more than 20 colas. The buds firmed up mainly in the final week; trichome coverage was abundant and the smell strong during the dark period. After 8 weeks the trichomes were milky; extending to 10 weeks only produced amber trichomes and a more sedating effect. Trimming was easy, and the report rated the yield as average.
Heavyweight Seeds also lists Strawberry Cake Auto with an 85 % indica share. According to the breeder, it is ready for harvest 60 to 70 days after germination, reaches 60 to 120 cm and yields 450 g/m² indoors as well as 50 to 100 g per plant outdoors; 21 % THC and 1.1 % CBD are stated.
The same-named autoflowering strain from Ganja Farmer has its own lineage, which the breeder traces to Wedding Cake, OG Kush and Strawberry Cough. Ganja Farmer states 26 % THC, 1 % CBD, 60 to 100 cm in height, 400 to 500 g/m² indoors and 70 to 160 g per plant outdoors.
The feminized Strawberry Cake from One Premium CBD Seeds is CBD-oriented, listed with 14 to 18 % CBD, 0.2 to 0.4 % THC and a 60 % indica share. Similarly named is Strawberry Cake CBD from Medical Seeds, stated by the breeder to have 20 % CBD at under 0.3 % THC, 10 weeks of flowering and 600 g/m² indoors.
