Yet another account sees the name not as a fixed strain but as a label for Runtz plants whose aroma leans distinctly toward vanilla.

Genetics and Origin:

One of the descriptions citing Afghani and Kashmir classes Vanilla Runtz as a balanced hybrid with 50 % indica and 50 % sativa. The other names the same parents but in the same text also speaks of a particularly resinous variant of Runtz. An almost identical combination, Afghani Kush and Kashmir, is given by Barney's Farm as the parent pair of its own Vanilla Kush.

The remaining accounts start from Runtz, which is regarded as a cross of Zkittlez and Gelato. One strain description explicitly names Vanilla Frosting as a further parent. A more detailed account, by contrast, assigns the name to no single breeder. According to it, some plants carry the name as a mere Runtz selection with a creamy note in the terpene profile, others as a cross of Runtz with strains such as Vanilla Frosting or Ice Cream Cake, depending on who grows them. One producer describes its flowers of this name as Runtz with a creamy vanilla note.

Aroma and Flavor:

Vanilla is named by strain descriptions and consumers alike; otherwise the accounts diverge. The descriptions paint a sweet, fruity picture: on the nose, sour citrus and berry notes sit over a sweetish, earthy base, the taste recalls vanilla candy, the finish cherry and berries. The producer mentioned adds tropical fruit and vanilla cream. User reports also mention herbal and earthy notes, a spicy smoke with vanilla on the finish and a rather mild taste; the listed flavor notes also include wood and tea. According to one consumer, the strain does not smell typically of cannabis, without being low in odor for that reason.
