XXX OG

XXX OG won first place in the Indica category at the Medical Cannabis Cup in Los Angeles in February 2014. In 2015, it took 5th place among the top 10 Indicas at the SoCal Medical Cannabis Cup, and in 2023 it placed 3rd in the Indica Flower category at the People's Choice vote of the Cannabis Cup Arizona. Sources still disagree on the genetics behind these results.

Genetics and Origin:

The older account does not describe XXX OG as a seed line but as a pure clone cut: a phenotype of OG Kush attributed to the breeder ORGNKID, distributed in California through a now-closed dispensary in Malibu. Under this account, the plant also goes by Tripple OG, Triple X or XXX OG Kush; an unknown line from the Emerald Triangle and a Hindu Kush are named as ancestors. Maven Genetics, which cultivates the strain in California, instead lists it as a cross of XXX and OG Kush.

Documented descendants include Godfather OG, Buddha's Triplets by Sin City Seeds, Moonwalker OG by Alien Genetics, Root Beer Float by Cannarado Genetics and 3 In The Pink by Exotic Genetix.

Aroma and Flavor:

Earth, pine needles and lemon define the smell, which has repeatedly been described as resinous. The smoke adds wood, a sweet top note and black pepper. Myrcene is named as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and caryophyllene. A 2020 tasting report additionally noted anise and chewing gum on the nose as well as mint on the finish, but overall considered the aroma more subdued than expected.

Effects:

Reported effects include relaxation, drowsiness, euphoria and an uplifted mood. According to the available descriptions, effects shift noticeably toward the physical as the dose increases, up to pronounced lethargy. Dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness are named as accompanying effects, and one individual report also mentions paranoia and visual distortions.

THC Content:

One strain description puts THC content at 12 to 20 %. A 2020-tasted sample of Californian flower, by contrast, was listed at 34.5 %, without naming the testing lab. This is a single measurement; such values vary considerably depending on batch, cultivation and phenotype.

Cultivation:

Flowering time is given as 8 to 9 weeks. The flowers turn out large, dense and heavily resinous; a 2020 report describes bushy growth with long leaves, medium-sized buds and a very sticky texture after curing.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Feminized seeds under this name come from Amsterdam Seeds Co., according to one supplier. This version is listed with a ratio of 75 to 25 in favor of the Indica side, 22 % THC, 55 to 65 days of flowering, up to 500 g/m² indoors, up to 600 g per plant outdoors and a moderate difficulty level. Not to be confused with this is XXX by Ethos Genetics, a genetically different feminized line from Lemon Berry Candy OG and End Game Punch Line #3, for which the breeder states 8 to 9 weeks of flowering and up to 30 % THC.

Community Experiences:

The tenor of the reports is sedating: a heavy, body-focused effect that leaves little room for activity at higher doses. The 2020 tasting report deviates from this, describing the effect as uplifting and euphoric with above-average potency. The reports agree on the resin: sticky, densely covered buds that are hard to break apart.
