Banana Cream Cake

At the 18th Emerald Cup Awards in 2022, an ice water hash made from Banana Cream Cake and Jealousy took 4th place in the Ice Water Hash category. The award went to a cross, not to the strain itself. Seed Junky Genetics, the breeder of the best-documented line under this name, released the same pairing as Flight Path. Several other pedigrees that differ from this line also circulate under the name.

Genetics and Origin:

Seed Junky lists Banana Cream Cake as an indica-dominant cross of Animal Sherbet and Banana OG. Animal Sherbet traces back to Animal Cookies and Sunset Sherbert, Banana OG to Ghost OG and a banana phenotype of Sagarmartha's 60/40. According to the strain description, feminized seeds of this line never existed.

Other strain descriptions equate Banana Cream Cake with Banana Cake, classify it as sativa-dominant and name Wedding Cake and Monkey Banana as parents. That is the pedigree of Banana Cake from Paisa Grow Seeds. Another description lists Banana Kush and Cheesecake with a 70 % indica share. At Geistgrow, Banana OG is crossed with Gelato Cake, and Gelato Cake is considered only a probable parent.

As a parent, Seed Junky's Banana Cream Cake is documented several times. Besides Flight Path, the same breeder also released Banana Cooler, a cross with Biscotti × Sherb BX. Nuggy's Seed Company crossed Banana Cream Cake × Jealousy with Jahgoo to make Gooey Cream Cake Jahlousy, and Sweet Seeds used the strain for an autoflower version.

Aroma and Flavor:

Seed Junky describes the flavor as banana with a creamy, smooth smoke, while the strain sheet of a partner company lists banana, cream and a gas note. In user reports the banana is sometimes distinct and sometimes only an undertone, in several reports accompanied by earthy notes and a creamy exhale. Some consumers, by contrast, tasted mainly lemon or a hint of mint with a mushroom-like aftertaste, and one report stresses a pungent, skunk-like smell. Further strain descriptions add pear, chestnut, vanilla and spicy notes.

THC and CBD Content:

For Seed Junky's line, the partner company's strain sheet gives 25 to 27 % THC and under 1 % CBD. Lab values vary more widely: a compilation of 15 US lab results, drawing on a study on the chemical diversity of cannabis in the US published in 2022, ranges from 17.0 to 26.4 % THC at 0.05 to 0.08 % CBD. It does not show which genetics are behind the individual samples. Values vary with batch, cultivation and phenotype.

Lab Results:

In the same compilation, myrcene reaches the highest terpene share at 0.11 to 1.23 %. Limonene was at 0.13 to 0.60 %, pinene at 0.11 to 0.49 %, caryophyllene at 0.10 to 0.32 % and linalool at 0.03 to 0.33 %. Another strain description, by contrast, puts caryophyllene first, ahead of limonene and pinene.

Seed Junky itself names beta-caryophyllene, beta-myrcene, alpha-bisabolol and limonene as dominant terpenes. The partner company's strain sheet highlights limonene, linalool and caryophyllene and puts the terpene content at 2 to 3 %.

Effects:

User reports describe the effect as cheerful and relaxed, partly with euphoric and giggly phases; some also mention creativity, focus or talkativeness. They disagree on how heavy the strain feels. Several consumers found it body-focused to drowsy and considered it more indica-leaning, while others describe a stimulating, fast-onset effect. One report, by contrast, describes a delayed head effect.

Reported side effects are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness; one report mentions headache and pressure behind the eyes.

Cultivation:

For Seed Junky's Banana Cream Cake, the partner company's strain sheet gives 63 days of flowering, tall growth with moderate stretch and large, dense flowers of round shape. It rates the yield as high. According to the strain description, the strain can be grown indoors and outdoors.

Versions from Different Breeders:

For the feminized Banana Cake from Monkey Banana and Wedding Cake, Paisa Grow Seeds gives 8 to 9 weeks of indoor flowering and an outdoor harvest in October. Outdoors the breeder puts the yield at over 500 g per plant, while the indoor yield is rated medium to high. Paisa describes the flowers as very compact and resinous, and the plant as suitable for SCROG and SOG.

Sweet Seeds crossed Banana Cream Cake with its own Strawberry Banana Gelato XL Auto to make the feminized Banana Cream Cake XL Auto. The breeder gives the genotype as 63.5 % indica, 36.3 % sativa and 0.2 % ruderalis, plus 50 to 120 cm height, 450 to 600 g/m² indoors, 50 to 170 g per plant outdoors and 20 to 24 % THC. The figures on duration do not match: around 63 days of flowering versus 8 to 9 weeks from germination.
