To improve the growing characteristics of Rocky Mountain Blueberry, a breeder whose name is not known crossed the strain with LSD. This is how one strain description recounts the origin of Blue Sky. It attributes high disease resistance to LSD and traces back to this parent the fact that the cross shows a better structure than Rocky Mountain Blueberry. Two strain descriptions classify Blue Sky, at 70 % indica and 30 % sativa, as an indica-dominant hybrid. Under the similar name Blue Sky 99%, Breaking Buds Seeds from Spain lists a line with a different pedigree.
Cultivation:
The same description gives a flowering time of 7 to 9 weeks indoors and an outdoor harvest between late September and mid-October. According to it, the plant stays medium-sized and fits into most growing spaces; it forms numerous nodes and can be topped. Indoor and outdoor cultivation are listed, preferably in a warm climate.
The finished buds are described as dense and light green with light orange pistils, in part with red and bluish tones, and are richly covered with trichomes. A user report confirms the compact, heavily frosted buds.
Aroma and Flavor:
Berries, above all blueberry, and an earthy base note define the descriptions. Added to these are herbs with a pungent note, spicy and floral touches and a hint of pine. In flavor, spicy earth accompanies the sweet berry note, and floral notes emerge on the exhale.
User reports speak of a sweetish flavor reminiscent of candy, of a fresh, pine-like to floral scent without a skunk note, and of an earthy aftertaste. One consumer found the herbal-earthy flavor unpleasant, another was reminded of asparagus. As terpenes, one strain description lists ocimene in first place, followed by myrcene and pinene; this information is not based on a laboratory analysis.
Effects:
In the user reports, Blue Sky appears as a balanced hybrid leaning slightly toward indica. Euphoria, elevated mood, silliness and creativity are mentioned, combined with physical relaxation and a tingling sensation. Opinions differ on whether the effect is more stimulating or more sedating: some describe it as activating and talkative, others report strong tiredness up to couch lock.
Dry mouth appears in several reports, and one strain description also lists dizziness. Individual consumers describe anxiety, one of them pronounced paranoia. Several reports call the strain strong, and one considers it overwhelming for inexperienced consumers.
THC Content:
The figures in strain descriptions diverge: one gives 12 to 23 % THC, another 13 to 19 %, a third a single value of 20 %.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Blue Sky 99% from Breaking Buds Seeds has a different pedigree. The breeder from Valencia crossed Blue Rhino from Positronics with Matanuska Tundra from Sagarmatha Seeds, stabilized the line through self-pollination and states that this achieved a phenotypic match of 99 %. Breaking Buds Seeds gives 60 % indica and 40 % sativa, offers feminized seeds exclusively and states a flowering time of 55 days indoors and a mid-September harvest outdoors.
According to the breeder, the plants stay low, show an almost pure indica structure and give medium yields. Breaking Buds Seeds describes the aroma as a mix of blueberries and musk and the effect as strongly psychedelic and unsuitable for beginners; as possible side effects, the breeder lists a slightly racing heart and nervousness.
