With Fat Banana, the name anticipates the aroma: Royal Queen Seeds describes the scent of the flowers as distinctly reminiscent of banana and pairs it with citrus notes in the taste. The breeder lists the feminized variety as a Kush hybrid of OG Kush and Chiquita Banana with 70 % indica and 30 % sativa. Under the same name, James Bong Genetics offers a strain with different parentage.
Aroma and Flavor:
In the breeder's data sheet, the flavor is listed as banana, citrus, earth, pepper and skunk. A post by Royal Queen Seeds adds strong forest-fruit notes and a typical Kush smell. Other strain descriptions speak of sour banana with earthy fruits, a sharp citrus accent and berry and herbal notes.
The user reports paint a less uniform picture. Several consumers confirm the sweet, banana-like smell and taste. One describes strong citrus notes with creamy banana, another an earthy smoke with hints of banana and kiwi in the finish. In one report the banana is missing entirely; honey-like sweetness and berries dominate there, and one grower also mentions strawberry. Grow reports mention a strong smell during flowering, one of them describing it as citrus-heavy with an earthy undertone.
Genetics and Origin:
Royal Queen Seeds describes the origin as a selection program in which Banana OG specimens were strictly selected, crossed with each other and then stabilized. On parentage, the breeder's own statements do not fully match: the product description gives OG Kush × Chiquita Banana, the data line on genetics Banana × OG Kush. Other strain descriptions that were reviewed name OG Kush and Chiquita Banana as parents. The classification also varies. One description rates the strain as balanced and, in the same entry, as predominantly indica.
Fat Banana appears as a parent in Fat Banana Automatic, a cross by the breeder with Cookies Auto, and also in Gorilla Banana, from Royal Gorilla and Fat Banana.
Effects:
The breeder describes an initially mild, euphoric onset followed by a strong physical effect and deep relaxation. In one post, the breeder speaks of an effect that keeps people on the couch. The user reports confirm the progression in principle: good mood, talkativeness, concentration and silliness are named at the start, later relaxation and, for some consumers, tiredness. Other reports, by contrast, explicitly stress that the relaxation does not turn into immobility. Impressions of potency also diverge, with some perceiving the strain as very strong, others as light.
Other strain descriptions list dry mouth, dry eyes, headache and dizziness as side effects. One user report mentions a slight headache.
THC Content:
Royal Queen Seeds gives up to 25 % THC for Fat Banana and up to 22 % for the autoflower version. Other strain descriptions give 20 to 28 %.
Cultivation:
For the photoperiod version, the breeder gives 55 to 65 days of flowering indoors and an outdoor harvest in late September. Indoors, Royal Queen Seeds states 350 to 400 g/m² under a 600-watt lamp, outdoors 450 to 500 g per plant. According to the breeder, the plants reach 80 to 140 cm indoors and 170 to 200 cm outdoors.
Despite the indica dominance, the breeder describes Fat Banana as prone to stretching. Without training it forms a very large main cola, and outdoors sprawling bushes can develop that need supports. According to the breeder, the strain responds well to pruning and training methods. The breeder describes the flowers as dense, tapering to a point and heavily covered in resin. The statements on climate are inconsistent: the data sheet assigns the strain to regions with short summers, while a post by the breeder names warmer climate zones for outdoor cultivation.
Community Experiences:
Grow reports describe the strain as uncomplicated, including for beginners. One indoor grower let the plants grow for 4 weeks, topped them and harvested large, dense buds after 9 weeks of flowering. Further reports highlight a good ratio of flowers to leaves, very firm, compact buds and high yields. One plant recovered after too little watering; in another grow, a spider mite infestation appeared in week 5 and could be contained. Another report notes that the plant grew very large.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Besides the feminized, photoperiod Fat Banana, Royal Queen Seeds offers Fat Banana Automatic. It descends from Fat Banana and Cookies Auto and, according to the breeder, consists of 70 % indica, 20 % sativa and 10 % ruderalis. The breeder gives 50 to 55 days of flowering and 65 to 70 days from germination to harvest, 375 to 450 g/m² indoors at 70 to 100 cm in height, and 90 to 175 g per plant outdoors at 80 to 120 cm. The data sheet assigns this version to regions with long summers.
The Fat Banana from James Bong Genetics is genetically distinct. The breeder crossed a Macnana from TerpyHighs' breeding with a Fatso from random seeds and offers the result as feminized. According to the breeder, the Macnana mother formed very large fan leaves, and the cross is said to be suitable for solventless extraction.
