Grape Soda

The original plant of Grape Soda is listed in pedigree overviews as a fast-flowering phenotype of Tahoe OG Kush. It was selected by the breeder Taste Budz, also listed as Tastebudz Seeds, from the Tahoe OG Kush of The Cali Connection. The breeder describes sweet and pungent-smelling flowers with purple coloring. The line is listed as a feminized variety and, according to the strain description, is suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation.

Genetics and Origin:

How the strain should be classified genetically is presented differently. Taste Budz speaks of a phenotype of Tahoe OG Kush, which in turn is traced back to a cross of the Tahoe cut of OG Kush and an SFV OG Kush. Silent Seeds, by contrast, describes the Grape Soda it uses as a cross of Tahoe OG Kush and SFV OG Kush. Another strain description gives Tahoe OG with shares of OG Kush and SFV OG Kush. Grape Soda is classified as an indica-dominant hybrid.

Several breeders have crossed the Taste Budz selection further. Silent Seeds combined it with Purple Punch for Grape Juice, Umami Seed Co with Zoda for Grape Zoda and Joint Custody Seed Co with Jelly Breath for Purple Soda Breath. Golden Soda by Calyx Garden goes back to Grape Soda and Golden Goat.

Aroma and Flavor:

Taste Budz describes a pungent citrus aroma, with grape taking over on the palate. Strain descriptions add lavender and citrus for the flavor. User reports confirm the grape flavor; some describe the smell as rather earthy and floral with a note of fresh grapes, others emphasize a sweet, floral taste. There are dissenting voices as well: individual reports found the flowers barely aromatic, the smoke harsh or the taste medicinal, and in one case the material smelled musty like a cellar yet tasted mildly fruity. Visually, one report describes light green flowers with purple areas.

Effects:

Relaxation and euphoria recur in the user reports, along with elevated mood, heightened desire, giggling, tingling and appetite. How strongly the strain sedates is reported differently. Some reports describe, after an initial high, a heavy body effect extending to reluctance to move and tiredness, which matches the breeder's description of a sluggish, heavy body effect. Others reported a clear head, focus, talkativeness or drive. Dry mouth and dry eyes are reported as side effects, and strain descriptions also list paranoia, while one report explicitly points out that none occurred.

THC and CBD Content:

The published values contradict each other. One strain description gives 28 % THC and 1 % CBG, another 21 to 22.5 % THC with 0.39 to 0.69 % CBD. The terpene profile differs as well: in one case myrcene ranks ahead of caryophyllene and pinene, in the other bisabolol and phellandrene lead with 0.16 % each, followed by caryophyllene, myrcene and limonene.

Versions from Different Breeders:

Original Sensible Seeds lists a Grape Soda Auto whose parentage is given as (OG Kush x SFV OG) x Ruderalis; the Taste Budz selection does not appear in it. The breeder describes compact, robust plants with very dense, resinous flowers that turn purple toward the end of flowering, and rates cultivation as easy. It gives 70 days of flowering and up to 150 g yield per plant, and describes the aroma as strongly citrusy with a berry note in the background.

Strains with different genetics also exist under the same name. In the pedigree of Grape SFV, a strain from James Loud Genetics, there is a Grape Soda from Red Pop and Grape Gas, whose breeder is not named. In addition, a CBD-rich hemp variety is listed as Grape Soda and attributed to Big Dog Exotic Genetics.
