Kimbo Kush is an indica-dominant cross of Blackberry Kush and Starfighter by Exotic Genetix, with an aroma described mainly as berry.
Berry notes run through the descriptions of Kimbo Kush. Exotic Genetix, the breeder from the US state of Washington, already highlights a hearty berry smell in its cross of Blackberry Kush and Starfighter; other strain profiles add earth and wood with a pungent undertone. The indica-dominant hybrid is named after the late MMA fighter Kimbo Slice, and in 2014 it finished in 7th place in its category at the High Times U.S. Cannabis Cup in Seattle.
One strain description lists earth, pepper, a little gasoline and citrus alongside berry, another mango and sweetness. In user reports the range widens: peach, lemon, blackberry, pine, coffee and dark cherry appear, once also burnt rubber, another time a scent of grapes. A product review from 2026 describes sweet berry over earthy Kush, accompanied by pine and a diesel note.
The selection that 710 Labs lists as a clone sounds different. There the flavor is described as sour green apple with a spicy Kush note and linked to the father Starfighter; another strain description also traces a possible apple note to this parent.
The mother is a selection of Blackberry Kush that the breeder calls Platinum Blackberry Kush, the father a male from the F2 generation of Starfighter, a strain from Alien Genetics. According to a report on the history of Exotic Genetix, Kimbo Kush came about in 2014, shortly after the success of Cookies and Cream. The breeder states 70 % indica and 30 % sativa and describes the offspring as dark and densely frosted, with firmer and more colorful flowers than the thread-like mother.
The 7th place in the Medical Indica category at the Cup in Seattle was not won by Exotic Genetix itself, however; a cooperative had entered the strain. One strain description speaks of a win at this competition, but the published ranking does not support that.
The strain appears as a parent in several lines. Exotic Genetix crossed it with Red Pop to make Big Red, with Cookies and Cream to make Gutbuster and with Runtz to make Knockout Runtz; Alphakronik Genes combined it with Chemdog to make Chembo Kush.
User reports describe above all a heavy, body-centered relaxation that can turn into drowsiness, along with euphoria and elevated mood. Some users additionally describe a clear, focused or creative head component, others giddiness, hunger or tingling. Several reports say the effect sets in with a delay and then becomes strong. As side effects, the reports name dry mouth, dry eyes and pronounced couch lock, occasionally also headaches and mild nervousness.
Strain descriptions put the THC content at 27 % with less than 1 % CBD. 2 producers have published values for their flowers without naming a lab or year of measurement: once 18 % THC with 0 % CBD, once 20.49 % THCA with 0.1 % CBD. These are single figures, and such values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype.
For an extract of the strain, an analysis showing 69 % THCA and 6.5 % terpenes was published in 2018. Myrcene accounted for 0.93 %, limonene for 0.78 %, humulene for 0.55 % and caryophyllene for 0.54 %. Strain descriptions list myrcene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and caryophyllene.
Exotic Genetix gives a flowering time of 50 to 56 days, medium height and a medium to high yield, intended for indoor and outdoor growing. The breeder lists a multi-topped bush as the growth form. The flowers are described as dense and heavily frosted, dark green with purple tones; users report flowers ranging from purple to light green that shed a lot of kief.
Exotic Genetix released Kimbo Kush only as regular seed; the original breeder never offered the strain in feminized form. Royal King Seeds lists a feminized version, refers to the Exotic Genetix cross and states 55 to 65 days of flowering, up to 500 g/m² indoors, up to 600 g per plant outdoors and 26 to 30 % THC; the supplier also describes its version as cold tolerant. 710 Labs lists the strain exclusively as a clone with the parentage Blackberry Kush × Starfighter F2.
44 user reports from 2015 to 2026 were evaluated. They agree on the strong body effect and the berry-fruity aroma. On strength the impressions diverge: one report describes clear differences between batches, another ties quality to the respective grower, and one rating considers the strain overrated.
