Clone-only cutting without a documented breeder; spread in southern Oregon, parentage disputed.
Jager
also known as Jagermeister, Jager Kush, JGR, Jäger, Jr.
Jager is an indica-dominant strain of unresolved parentage whose spread is traced to southern Oregon; it is named after a liqueur that its licorice aroma recalls.
A batch of medical Jager flowers was measured at 25 % THC and 1.0 % CBG. In the terpene profile of the same sample, limonene leads with 0.80 %, followed by trans-caryophyllene and farnesene at 0.37 % each, alpha-pinene at 0.25 % and linalool at 0.24 %. This is a single measurement that the manufacturer published in 2025 without naming the testing laboratory. The indica-dominant strain, also listed as Jäger, Jagermeister, Jager Kush or JGR, is named after the dark liqueur from Germany; its scent recalls black licorice.
THC and CBD Content:
The manufacturer states the CBD content of this batch as below 1 %. Other strain descriptions give 17 to 23 % for THC, with individual entries giving 21 or 23 %. They list the CBG value of 1 % as well.
Genetics and Origin:
Who bred the strain is not documented, and several explanations circulate regarding its parentage. Several sources name a cross of LA Confidential and Blue Dream. A producer that grows Jager as a cutting, by contrast, assigns it to a Hindu Kush line and mentions OG as another circulating variant. A 2016 press report listed Hindu Kush, Blue Dream and LA Confidential as suspected components and classed the strain as 80 % indica and 20 % sativa; another strain description gives the same split. A 2019 user report considers Jager a renamed Purple Hindu Kush from the circle of growers in Cave Junction, Oregon. The description from a dispensary, in turn, names Hindu Skunk and Black Domina as parents.
According to the producer mentioned, outdoor farmers in southern Oregon made the clone known, and other descriptions also place it there. A manufacturer of medical flowers tells a different story: in this account, Jager originated with the farmers Rasmussen and Mailer on the Slocan River in the Kootenays.
As a parent, Jager appears in several newer crosses, including Dopamine (Jäger × Mimosa) by Clone Only Strains, Black Licorice (Jäger × Permanent Chimera) by Lupos CannaSeed and Jaeger Cake S1 by Makena Genetics. CSI Humboldt crossed the clone with F1 Durb and describes its flowers as dark and resinous.
Aroma and Flavor:
Licorice and anise dominate the descriptions, accompanied by earthy and spicy notes, lemon, pine and wood. The manufacturer of the measured batch adds citrus, fuel and strong herbal tones, and one seed description adds musk, damp earth and diesel when the flower is broken open. The 2016 press report first described nori and licorice, followed by a tingle like Szechuan pepper. User reports also mention pepper, lavender and a grape-like sweetness, and once a minty aftertaste.
Other strain descriptions diverge on the terpene profile. One, like the measurement, puts limonene and caryophyllene at the top, followed by linalool; another ranks pinene and myrcene ahead of limonene.
Effects:
The reports center on a body-focused relaxation that several consumers explicitly describe as not fully sedating. Euphoria, good mood, silliness, hunger, a tingling sensation and drowsiness are also mentioned. Individual reports, by contrast, describe the strain as stimulating and focused or creative, while others describe a strong couch lock. Side effects reported are dry mouth, dry eyes, dizziness and anxiety. In the 2016 press report, the effect began with a light, spinning dizziness; after about 20 minutes the intoxication was pronounced, though complex tasks remained manageable.
Cultivation:
The producer that lists the strain as a cutting gives 56 to 60 days to harvest indoors; outdoors it is ripe in early October. Another strain description gives 45 to 50 days of flowering, up to 200 g/m² indoors and a height under 30 inches, and highlights compact growth and mold resistance. A 2016 grow report confirms the resistance, also mentions powdery mildew and rates the yield as high.
Reports on plant height diverge widely. One grower reports plants 9 to 12 feet tall, another 2 feet after a period in which a comparison strain reached 6 feet. A further report describes early-starting flowering with strong stretch and internodes of 4 inches. The flowers are considered dense and sticky, in several reports with purple tones and orange hairs.
Versions from Different Breeders:
CSI Humboldt produced a feminized S1 line (Jager × Jager) from the clone. Growers Choice Seeds released Jager Auto, a feminized autoflower version whose genetics the breeder gives as Blue Dream, LA Confidential and Ruderalis. According to Growers Choice Seeds, it flowers for 50 to 60 days, yields up to 350 g/m² indoors and up to 400 g per plant outdoors and reaches 23 % THC; the proportions are given as 80 % indica, 10 % sativa and 10 % ruderalis. Premium Seed Market lists the strain as Jager Kush and names LA Confidential and Blue Dream as parents.
