LA Pop Rocks
also known as LA Pop Rockz #4, LA Pop Rockz, LA Pop Rockz
LA Pop Rocks is an indica-leaning cross of Triangle Kush Bx2 and Z Animal from Seed Junky Genetics, with limonene leading the terpene profile in test results.
Limonene leads the terpene profile of LA Pop Rocks, at least in the batches for which a California producer publishes test results. At the California Cannabis Awards 2025, held at the California State Fair, an entry under this name won the limonene class in the indoor flower category and placed second in the pinene class. The indica-leaning cross of Triangle Kush Bx2 and Z Animal comes from Seed Junky Genetics and also circulates under the spellings LA Pop Rockz and LA Pop Rockz #4.
Lab Results:
For 5 batches, this producer reports THC values between 21.1 and 28.3 %, CBD between 0.06 and 0.125 %, and a total terpene content of 2.07 to 3.33 %. It does not name a laboratory. In all 5 batches, limonene, linalool and beta-caryophyllene top the terpene list. Values vary by batch, cultivation and phenotype.
A batch from a different California operation, reported by a cannabis magazine in 2023, came in considerably higher: 38.85 % THC and 4.04 % terpenes, led by beta-caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene. This is a single measurement with no laboratory named. A strain description, by contrast, gives 18 % THC and lists caryophyllene, terpinolene and humulene as the dominant terpenes.
Aroma and Flavor:
Sweet, candy-like notes and a strong gassy smell run through the descriptions, along with apple again and again, in some cases sour green apple. One strain description adds nutty sweetness and fresh mint with pepper on the finish, another lists apple, apricot and tropical fruit. Individual user reports mention lemon, pine or berries.
The tasting note for the 2025 award entry lists sharp spices such as cumin and paprika before grinding, then lime, tropical fruit, diesel and roses, and on the palate pine resin, citrus and candied herbs. A magazine report on a batch from Maryland emphasizes gas, fruit and florals, while a report on a California batch notes an earthy candy sweetness.
Effects:
User reports center on physical relaxation, often accompanied by tingling and euphoria; silliness and giggling are mentioned several times. The reports disagree on how active one stays. Some describe focus, creativity or drive, others describe drowsiness, hunger and a heaviness that ties people to the couch. A magazine report describes a fast-onset, head-centered high with fits of giggling. Reported side effects are dry mouth and dry eyes, in isolated cases headaches and coughing from harsh smoke; one report describes pronounced paranoia.
Genetics and Origin:
For this strain, Seed Junky Genetics crossed a twice-backcrossed Triangle Kush, whose original plant circulates only as a clone, with Z Animal. This line in turn traces back to The Original Z from Dying Breed Seeds and the in-house Animal Cookies, which Seed Junky Genetics assembled from Animal Cookies and Animal Mints. Behind The Original Z stand Grape Ape and Grapefruit. A strain description puts the indica share at 70 %.
As a parent, LA Pop Rocks appears in several crosses, for example in Modified Rocks by TerpsGenetics with Modified Grapes, in Rock Stomper by Sunken Treasure Seeds with Mac Stomper, and in Grape Pop Rocks Auto by Anesia Seeds, which additionally contains Grape Stomper and a ruderalis.
Cultivation:
According to a pedigree overview, Seed Junky Genetics released only regular seeds, suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation. Growers describe fluffy, tapering flowers with mixed green foliage and frosty-looking trichome coverage; one user report highlights the strong smell and the amount of resin. Accounts of color differ: one producer describes its flowers as often purple, while a magazine describes those of another operation as dark green.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Feminized seeds under the name come from other companies. Crop King Seeds and Rocket Seeds give matching details for their versions: Triangle Kush Bx2 × Z Animal, 8 to 10 weeks of flowering, 400 g/m² indoor, 550 g per plant outdoor, 5 to 8 feet in height, 28 to 30 % THC and around 1 % CBD. Rocket Seeds lists the strain as its own limited edition with a 70 % indica share. Crop King Seeds names no original breeder and describes its version as pest-resistant and growable in almost any climate. Copycat Genetixx also distributes an S1 line under the designation LA Pop Rocks #10 S1.
