Under the name Nerds, a hybrid of Strawberry Cough and Grape Ape is listed that traces back to Adam Jacques and the Oregon Microgrowers Guild in Eugene, Oregon. Anyone looking up the strain comes across a whole series of aliases: Nerdz, Nerdz OG, Nerds OG, Pink Nerds, Blue Nerds and Blue Nerdz. At least Blue Nerds refers to a separate strain with a different lineage elsewhere, which makes it harder to match user reports and product details.
Genetics and Origin:
One strain description assigns the Grape Ape used to the Barney's Farm line and the Strawberry Cough to that of BC Bud Depot. The result is listed as a balanced hybrid; 2 descriptions put the ratio at 50 % indica and 50 % sativa each.
Whether the original plant ever circulated as seed remains unclear. One strain overview notes that Jacques' Nerds was apparently never sold in seed form, yet lists the same version as exclusively feminized. Jacques himself made a name mainly as a breeder of CBD-rich strains.
As a parent, Nerds appears in White Nerds, a cross with The White whose breeder is not recorded.
Versions from Different Breeders:
For the Oregon Microgrowers Guild version, a flowering time of around 60 days is recorded, along with cultivation indoors, outdoors and in a greenhouse. A feminized Nerds from the same parents comes from Oaseeds Genetics, for which the breeder states 8 to 10 weeks of flowering, up to 500 g/m² under artificial light and up to 1200 g per plant outdoors, plus 14 to 25 % THC and about 0.5 % CBD. Oaseeds Genetics places the outdoor harvest in early to mid autumn.
Blue Nerds has no genetic connection to Nerds: Global Genetics LA crossed Runtz with The Original Z for it. A line made from Watermelon Z and Forbidden Fruit also circulates under this name.
Aroma and Flavor:
Grape and strawberry dominate the descriptions, accompanied by berry fruit and pronounced sweetness. Several times the grape comes first, while the strawberry only emerges on the exhale. Spicy and herbal tones come in as well, along with earthy and woody ones. One description adds citrus notes of lemon, orange and pineapple, and a user report mentions a creamy, earthy finish. A comparison with the sugar-coated candies of the same name also appears.
2 independent strain descriptions name caryophyllene as the dominant terpene. They diverge on the remaining terpenes: one lists linalool and limonene, the other myrcene, eucalyptol, humulene and terpinolene.
Effects:
The effect is described as a combination of mental stimulation and physical relaxation. Reports mention euphoria, creativity, giggling, talkativeness and a tingling in the body. One report highlights increased concentration and drive when studying, while other users become sleepy later on. One description stresses an inward-turned quality that can tip into brooding for some.
Reported side effects are dry mouth, dry and reddened eyes, headache, dizziness and fatigue. Individual reports mention heavy salivation, irritability, inner restlessness while brooding and marked discomfort after larger amounts.
THC Content:
Strain descriptions give THC values between 14 and 23 %, though the individual ranges only partly agree. Several user reports find the strain considerably stronger than these figures suggest, explicitly contradicting its classification as mild. Onset is described as delayed in some accounts and as fast in others.
Cultivation:
Strain descriptions put the flowering time at around 60 days and 56 to 63 days respectively; according to one description, the outdoor harvest is due around mid-October. During vegetative growth the plants stay compact with tightly spaced nodes, and they stretch noticeably after the switch to flowering. For final height, one description gives 61 to 91 cm, another less than 76 cm.
The leaves are broad and lime green with strong fingers. The flowers turn out rather loose, bright light green with orange pistils and dark purple accents under a dense coat of trichomes. A warm climate is required; 2 descriptions rate the difficulty as low.
