Several names circulate for the same cross of Purple Punch and Zkittlez: Purple Zkittlez, Purple Skittles and Purple Z. Behind this lies a dispute with a confectionery brand. One large strain listing now carries the strain only as Purple Z and explicitly calls the original name infringing; another notes that the parent strain Zkittlez is also now listed as The Original Z for legal reasons.
Genetics and Origin:
Several strain descriptions and a review from Oregon from 2020 attribute the cross to Ethos Genetics. The sources do not fully agree: one description considers this attribution probable but uncertain, another names, alongside Ethos, a joint effort by Inseedious Seeds with unnamed partners. Ethos itself uses a selection called Purple Zkittlez #1 as a parent of the Purple Zkittlez RBX line, which came out of the cross with Punchline #3. Classifications range from an indica-dominant hybrid with 60 % indica to a pure indica.
Aroma and Flavor:
Grape and berries with a candy-like sweetness are the common denominator of the descriptions. Depending on the source, earthy, herbal and spicy tones are added, floral notes reminiscent of violet, or a skunky undertone with traces of cheese, tree fruit and grapefruit. User reports also mention vanilla and guava. The review from Oregon differed markedly: instead of berries it found mainly tangerine and orange hard candy with tropical fruit, underneath the musty base note said to characterize Zkittlez as well.
The strain descriptions contradict each other on the terpene profile. One names terpinolene, pinene and caryophyllene as the leading terpenes, another linalool, limonene, pinene and myrcene. Neither statement cites an underlying lab analysis.
Effects:
At its core, user reports describe a physically relaxing, sleep-inducing effect that users tend to place in the evening; some found it strongly sedating, to the point of reluctance to leave the couch. Others found the strain sociable and talkative, and the review from Oregon describes relaxed euphoria with a head clear enough for the daytime. Strain descriptions add creative and tingly effects. Reported undesired effects include dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue, nervousness and paranoid thoughts.
THC and CBD Content:
The strain descriptions are far apart: they give 12 to 14 %, 19 % and 17 to 23 % THC. For CBD there is a range of 0.05 to 0.46 %, and another description lists 1 % CBG.
Versions from Different Breeders:
Feminized seed lines from several companies exist under this name, all with Purple Punch and Zkittlez as parents. They differ most in flowering time.
- Inseedious Seeds describes its version as an F1 of Purple Punch and The Original Z, developed with partner breeders, and states 80 % indica, 10 to 11 weeks of flowering and 650 to 750 g/m² yield indoor. More than 5 striking phenotypes are said to have emerged from the cross.
- Seed Supplier gives 56 to 63 days of flowering, 90 to 130 cm height indoor and 120 to 180 cm outdoor, and 20 to 23 % THC, and rates the yield as medium indoor and high outdoor.
- Crop King Seeds and Rocket Seeds use identical values: 8 to 9 weeks of flowering, 19 % THC and 0.8 to 1 % CBD.
Cultivation:
One strain description gives 56 to 61 days of flowering, 400 g/m² indoor and 550 g per plant outdoor, and rates cultivation as difficult. It stands alone in this: Seed Supplier, Crop King Seeds and Rocket Seeds describe their versions as easy to cultivate, and one cultivation guide as moderately demanding.
Seed Supplier describes compact, bushy plants with many side shoots and dense, resinous flowers. Because of the compact buds, the cultivation guide recommends controlled humidity and good air movement so that moisture does not build up. The flowers are described as dark green with purple undertones, amber hairs and dense trichome coverage; the guide links deeper purple shades to cooler nights toward the end of flowering. For the outdoor harvest, Crop King Seeds and Rocket Seeds give late September to early October, and Seed Supplier gives early October for Germany.
Community Experiences:
Customer reports on the Seed Supplier version highlight easy cultivation and purple-tinted flowers; growers there report 2 phenotypes that differed in bud structure and potency. Dried flowers are described as crumbly and slightly sticky. In one report the full aroma only showed after about 1 week of jar curing.
