The breeder of Gas Monkey is not named in any of the available descriptions. The sources agree on the cross of Grease Monkey with a strain referred to only as Gas, and on its classification as an indica-dominant hybrid. The best-documented points are a fuel-dominated smell, a rather sedating effect and THC figures that lie far apart.
Genetics and Origin:
Grease Monkey, the named parent, comes from Exotic Genetix and traces back to Gorilla Glue #4 and Cookies & Cream. One strain description puts the indica share of Gas Monkey at 70 %, while others speak of an indica-dominant strain without giving a figure.
Similar names lead to mix-ups. The page of a seed vendor lists Gorilla Glue #4 and Cookies & Cream as direct parents of Gas Monkey, which reflects the ancestry of Grease Monkey. Under the spelling Gas Munkey, Alphakronik Genes lists a cross of GG#4 and The Dawgfather, so without Grease Monkey. Another strain description, by contrast, also assigns Gas Munkey to Grease Monkey and Gas.
Aroma and Flavor:
Fuel leads the smell, accompanied by skunk. Several descriptions add sour lemon and pine, in part also an earthy note; one also mentions ammonia and chemical tones. The flavor continues the diesel character, again with lemon and pine. Consumers describe the smell as very intense even in the bag and the taste as gassy.
One strain description lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene. Another describes the buds as loose and popcorn-like, olive green with small orange hairs. One consumer, however, reports dark buds with a violet sheen.
Effects:
Strain descriptions sketch a course that begins with a noticeable surge in the head and over time turns into heavy physical relaxation that keeps consumers on the sofa. The consumer reports point the same way: relaxation and drowsiness run through them, alongside good mood, euphoria and giddiness. Individual consumers, however, find the strain focusing, feel a tingling in the body or report creativity and heightened desire. Several reports describe Gas Monkey as very strong, while one places the strength more in the middle.
As side effects, consumers name dry mouth and dry eyes, occasionally dizziness. One report mentions smoke that irritates throat and lungs, while another found it mild.
THC Content:
The THC figures in strain descriptions cannot be condensed into a single value: 19 %, 26.2 % and 28 % are given, each without lab, batch or year. The description with the lowest value additionally lists 1 % CBG.
